Seren is a Rainbow in Ruardean and she has been raising awareness of blood plasma donation, which her brother relies on. Have a look at this video to see their story and see the Girlguiding volunteers from her group donating plasma. Seren was recently presented with a Girlguiding hero award, which is very well deserved.

We need ten more people to book in for this day to make it a Girlguiding takeover at the donation centre … can you help ? Please make sure you have emailed Ruardean Rainbows if you have booked on!

We have an inspiring story to share and a call to action to help!

Ruardean Rainbows have been learning about blood plasma donation, inspired by Seren, one of their Rainbows and her amazing efforts to raise awareness in honour of her younger brother, Monty, who relies on plasma donations. Seren has set herself the incredible goal of inspiring 130 plasma donations – the number Monty needs for a year’s supply. 💛

To support her mission, the Rainbows have already recorded the voiceover for a social media video explaining about plasma donations. They are now teaming up with the Blood Plasma Centre in Birmingham for a bigger awareness campaign, celebrating Seren’s efforts and showing what Girlguiding can achieve together.

They have booked out the Birmingham Plasma Donation Centre for Saturday 17th January, and we’d love as many of our Girlguiding family as possible to join us — both to donate and to show your support. The centre will be booked just for us, and the blood plasma mascot will be there to meet the Rainbows! It’ll be a fantastic opportunity for the girls to learn more about the donation process and see the impact they can have.

We are hoping our friends in Girlguiding SWE Girlguiding Midlands Girlguiding Birmingham and Girlguiding West Mercia will share and support the event

Plasma donor criteria:
✅ Aged 17–65
✅ Weigh over 50kg (7st 12lbs)
✅ In good health

If you’re able to donate, please:
1️⃣ Register online at https://www.blood.co.uk/plasma
2️⃣ Email [email protected] with your donor ID number so they can include you as in their booking

Let’s make this a wonderful day for Seren and Monty, and show what our Girlguiding family can do together.

Our final spotlight for national inclusion week is an exciting new edition for supporting our members to make the most of Girlguiding.

One of our Queen’s Guide Award candidates (Luca) has put together a ‘Calm Kit’ to ensure all members can have access to a safe, calming space regardless of location. Luca decided on this project after completing her Mental Health First Aid training.

This Calm Kit will be great for helping us make sure everyone feels welcome and had has what they need to regulate.

We have already used this at Bubbs Hill Bash and Guide camp and helped all our members ground themselves and reconnect. Stay tuned for details on how to request use of the kit!

Shout out to Asda and Morrisons for their kind donations that made this kit possible to this scale!

On day 4 of national inclusion week, we are spotlighting the ongoing work to be more inclusive.

As well as being a part of our county strategy, inclusion and inspiring the next generation is at the heart of what we do. Our programme has many activities with an inclusion theme as well as topics that inspire action taking and change making. We also have unofficial challenge badges and activities that explore diversity such as learning about religions, cultures and taking part in events like Pride.

On day 3 of national inclusion week, we are thinking about financial support.

Everyone is welcome in Girlguiding! Some young members and their families may not feel they can attend due to financial pressures, but we are here to help.

If finances impact your ability to join Girlguiding, you can speak to your unit team about things like:

⭐️ Second hand uniform
⭐️ Paying subs weekly / in smaller instalments
⭐️ Grants or funding that covers subs and costs of trips / equipment

If you are worried about costs, you can talk freely to us about your concerns.

Today’s spotlight for inclusion week is on Cowley Adventure (formerly Deer Park)!

Cowley Adventures is our activity centre that offers 30 acres of fun and adventures for those in and out of Guiding! We love to see people out enjoying our site, and aim to do all we can to be accessible.

🚽🚿 We have accessible bathrooms across the site including a full length changing bed

🌳 We have places wood chipping down on our woodland path to make it more accessible for more people

🚘 We have parking spaces near to the building and ensure these are reserved for those who need them at large scale events

💻 We have updated our website to include information on which buildings are not accessible by wheelchair

If you want to visit us at Cowley Adventure and have access needs, we can work with you to make our activities accessible. Please contact the Cowley Adventure team to talk about any accessibility requirements!
