This Saturday Gotherington Film Club is screening 'Lee', the story of American photographer Elizabeth 'Lee' Miller, a fashion model who became an acclaimed war correspondent for Vogue magazine during World War II.

The movie focuses on the most defining decade of her life, following her journey to the front lines where she bravely documented the liberation of Paris and the horrors of N**i concentration camps. The screenplay itself is specifically adapted from the 1985 biography The Lives of Lee Miller, written by her own son, Antony Penrose.
Miller had a profound understanding and empathy for women and the voiceless victims of war. Her images display both the fragility and ferocity of the human experience. Above all, the film shows how Miller lived her life at full-throttle in pursuit of truth, for which she paid a huge personal price, forcing her to confront a traumatic and deeply buried secret from her childhood.

We have just a few tickets sold for GOAT at 3pm so we are showing the film but would LOVE to have some more film goers join us!!! With LOADS of sun forecast, you can take the afternoon off to enjoy the cool of The Old Chapel!

We have our Bennetts ice-creams for the interval too with a new flavour for you to try!! We also have free squash for children, the bar with a selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks... popcorn, pic n mix and pringles!!!

There is still space for the evening too, you can reserve seats at the shop.or by emailing [email protected].... or you can risk it and just turn up! (There will probably a few seats spare tonight)

Gotherington Film Club is back this Saturday with two wonderful films: 'GOAT' in the afternoon, and our evening film: 'H is for Hawk'.

GOAT PG- 3pm
A small goat with big dreams gets a once-in-a-lifetime shot to join the pros and play roarball, a high-intensity, co-ed, full-contact sport dominated by the fastest, fiercest animals in the world. With its eye popping animation, GOAT is smart, funny and filled with endearing characters - fun for both kids and adults!

H is for HAWK 12 - 7.30pm
H is for Hawk follows Helen (Foy), who, after the sudden death of her father (Gleeson), loses herself in the memories of their time birding and exploring the natural world together and turns the ancient art of falconry—rooted in European tradition—training a wild goshawk named Mabel to navigate her profound loss. But as she teaches Mabel to hunt and fly free, Helen discovers how deeply she has neglected her own emotions and life. What begins as an act of endurance transforms into an intimate journey of resilience and healing.

During every screening we take a half way interval, giving you chance to grab an ice-cream or extra drinks and snacks, and compare notes with your neighbours!

Our family films in the afternoon are very child friendly, with cushions laid down at the front for children to sit together with friends. We have free squash and water and have snacks available to buy on arrival and during the interval. It is always a very relaxed, fun atmosphere in the afternoon, so do join us if you haven't before and fancy giving the big screen a go!!

Zootopia 2 has become the highest grossing animation of all time, and if you haven't seen it on the big screen, now's your chance!! A fantastic follow on from Zootopia.

Our evening film is 'The Choral' - 15 runtime 113mins

1916. As war rages on the Western Front, the Choral Society in Ramsden, Yorkshire has lost most of its men to the army. The Choral's ambitious committee, determined to press ahead, decides to recruit local young males to swell their ranks. They must also engage a new chorus master, and despite their suspicions that he has something to hide, their best bet seems to be Dr. Henry Guthrie (Ralph Fiennes) -- driven, uncompromising, and recently returned from a career in Germany. As conscription papers start to arrive, the whole community discovers that the best response to the chaos that is laying waste to their lives is to make music together.

The Choral is a touching story, well told with many endearing characters, beautiful music and good amounts of humour.

Film Club is back at The Old Chapel THIS SATURDAY, 17th January with the return of Wonka in the afternoon and Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale as our evening screening.

If you missed it the first time around, now's your chance to enjoy Wonka, the smash hit musical starring Timothee Chalamet as the famous chocolate making entrepreneur with an ear for a catchy tune. Having conquered both critics and audiences worldwide, we are happy to have this family crowd pleaser return to Old Chapel to warm hearts in the chilly New Year. Feel free to come down and sing along if you already know the words, and if you have youngsters who have yet to see this on the big screen don't miss the chance to introduce them to this delightful film for the first time. Also starring amongst others Olivia Coleman, Hugh Grant, Rowan Atkinson and Matt Lucas, Wonka is rated PG.

Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale does exactly what it says on the tin, providing a grand send off to the Crawley family and their home. It's now the 1930s and fresh challenges are on the horizon, not least a scandal surrounding Lady Mary and the ever present financial pressure of maintaining Downton itself. With the returning cast of Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern joined by Paul Giamatti and Alessandro Nivola, the Crawleys and their entourage once again prove to be a most entertaining ensemble to spend time with. The plot is largely irrelevant - it's Downton Abbey, so you know what to expect - and if you want to spend time with the family and their household one last time then you will love this final farewell. The film is rated PG and is suitable for all the family, even Dowager Countesses.
