Our evening film is 'The Choral' - 15 runtime 113mins

1916. As war rages on the Western Front, the Choral Society in Ramsden, Yorkshire has lost most of its men to the army. The Choral's ambitious committee, determined to press ahead, decides to recruit local young males to swell their ranks. They must also engage a new chorus master, and despite their suspicions that he has something to hide, their best bet seems to be Dr. Henry Guthrie (Ralph Fiennes) -- driven, uncompromising, and recently returned from a career in Germany. As conscription papers start to arrive, the whole community discovers that the best response to the chaos that is laying waste to their lives is to make music together.

The Choral is a touching story, well told with many endearing characters, beautiful music and good amounts of humour.

THIS COMING SATURDAY - The Life of Chuck!

See details below to find out more about this mimth's film, or email Pete at [email protected] if you'd like to join us!

(Family film is back on March 21st with Zootropolis 2!)

As our afternoon film is on hold awaiting a worthwhile new release for families, this month we just have an evening film which is 'The Life of Chuck'.

The Life of Chuck is a non-chronological look at the life of an accountant named Chuck Krantz, played as an adult by Tom Hiddleston.

Directed by Mike Flanagan and adapted from Stephen King's novella, this film is a deeply moving exploration of life's fleeting moments and the quiet, powerful ways one person can leave a mark on the world. It is a tale full of fantasy and hope, a true feel-good movie disguised in King's strange and dark signature style.

At its core it is a movie about celebrating the act of being alive!!

If you'd like to join us you can sign up at One Stop Gotherington Stores (please bring cash) or email Pete at [email protected] and pay online.

Bad Guys 2 - PG
3pm (runtime 104mins)

Everyone's favorite felons are back, and this time, they've got company. In the new action-packed chapter from DreamWorks Animation's acclaimed comedy smash about a crackerjack crew of animal outlaws, our now-reformed Bad Guys are trying (very, very hard) to be good, but instead find themselves hijacked into a high-stakes, globe-trotting heist, masterminded by a new team of criminals they never saw coming: The Bad Girls.

Witty, sharp, and whimsical silliness that takes you and the family in a wild ride from start to finish!

Ballad of Wallis Island - 12 certificate
7.30pm (runtime 99mins)

After winning the lottery, eccentric loner Charles decides to move to a remote island. He is a lifelong fan of McGwyer Mortimer, a band made up of Herb McGwyer and Nell Mortimer, who have since ended both their collaboration and romantic relationship. Charles decides to try and reunite the duo by hiring both of them — without either knowing the other would be there — to play a private concert for him on his island.

The script is rich with witty banter and heartfelt moments that will have you laughing one minute and reaching for the tissues the next. The Ballad of Wallis Island is a quiet gem that blends dry humor with deep emotion. At its heart, it's a romantic film - not just in the traditional sense, but in its celebration of love, loyalty, and human connection.

As always you can reserve seats at One Stop Gotherington Stores or email Pete at [email protected]

If you've not been before do give us go, we offer a warm friendly environment to enjoy a film with friends and family. There are refreshments, a licensed bar and hot drinks available. We also have interval ice-creams!!

Film Club returns this weekend on Saturday 18th October with a double bill of Lilo & Stich in the afternoon and White Bird as our evening screening.

Lilo & Stich became the smash hit of the summer, earning over a billion dollars worldwide with its live action take on the classic Disney animation. This funny and touching reimagining of the story of a lonely girl who finds a lost, adorable creature who also happens to be an escaped alien convict has all the ingredients for a great family film - from humour to touching family drama by way of slapstick chaos. The film stars Sydney Elizabeth Agudong and Hannah Waddingham and is rated U.

White Bird continues the story of Julian Albans, who previously appeared in the hit film Wonder, learning lessons in kindness and moral courage from his grandmother's tales of growing up in N**i occupied France. Starring Helen Mirren, the film is based in the modern day as Julian starts out trying to fit in at his new school, but takes the audience on a journey through the 1940s in flashback with stories of survival and compassion that build a bond between the grandmother and her grandson. With some great performances and an affecting story, the film is rated 12A.

The afternoon screening will start at 3pm and the evening at 7.30pm as usual and as always, there will be refreshments available before the films and in the interval.

You can reserve your tickets by emailing [email protected] or signing up at the village shop. PLEASE NOTE the shop is closing at 8pm on Wednesday for it's refit..re-opening on 25th!! If you want to just pay on arrival we do take cash or card payments at The Old Chapel!

Our family film returns in October but this September we ARE showing an evening film that is heartwarming, heartbreaking and hilarious (pack the tissues!) and is a 12 certificate if any older children would like to join us!

Inspired by the true story of a disillusioned Englishman who went to work in a school in Argentina in 1976. Expecting an easy ride, Tom discovers a divided nation and a class of unteachable students. However, after he rescues a penguin from an oil-slicked beach, his life is turned upside-down.

Steve Coogan (Tom) and Jonathan Pryce star in this true story of wit, warmth, counterintuitive discoveries, humour, drama, and cute penguin antics.

The Penguin Lessons provides a glimpse into the real events of another time and reinforces that hope, humility, and humanity are what enable us to survive in an ever-changing world. As the title suggests, these lessons are gently and sweetly taught by a quirky and lovable penguin.

If you want to reserve a seat you can email Pete at [email protected] (pay by BACS or on arrival) or pop your names down at One Stop Gotherington Stores (please bring cash to pay).

Tickets are just £6 if bought/reserved in advance, or £7 on the door. Seating is limited so best get your names down if you want to enjoy the film with us!!

The licensed bar and snacks will be available on arrival and during the interval, including our popular interval ice-creams -cash/card accepted at The Old Chapel.

We look forward to seeing you, and we look forward to seeing families in October (18th) when we run our first family film for the Autumn!

DOG MAN - PG 3pm - cancelled, sorry!

When a faithful police dog and his human police officer owner are injured together on the job, a harebrained but life-saving surgery fuses the two of them together and Dog Man is born. Dog Man is sworn to protect and serve—and fetch, sit and roll over. As Dog Man learns to embrace his new identity, he must stop feline supervillain Petey the Cat from cloning himself and going on a crime spree.

'Dog Man' is a fun, heartfelt animated adventure that brings its comic roots to life with style and sincerity. The unique blend of 2D and 3D animation is visually striking and it's fast-paced animated style captures the essence of the graphic novels written by Dav Pilkey. With a great storyline and entertaining sub plots it has the perfect balance of humour and emotion.

While the story stays simple, its charm, voice work, and creative energy make it a feel-good watch for all ages. It's one to watch!!!

A Complete Unknown - 15 - EARLIER START TIME of 7pm!!

Set in the influential New York music scene of the early 60s, A COMPLETE UNKNOWN follows 19-year-old Minnesota musician BOB DYLAN's (Timothée Chalamet) meteoric rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts – his songs and mystique becoming a worldwide sensation – culminating in his groundbreaking electric rock and roll performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965.

Chalamet (Greatest of All Time) gives another Oscar worthy performance, with a stellar cast, beautiful cinematography and a great script all combine to tell the timeless story of Bob Dylan and the effect he had and is still having on the world. Please note as it's a bit longer than most films we show we are starting at the earlier time of 7pm (doors open at 6.50pm) - additional cushions are available for extra comfort!!
