Apologies for not posting lately, fortunately we have had no potential Flood problems. However I have been to. Flood Wardens meeting at the Council Offices where we had two presentations by Severn Trent and the Severn River Catchment Group. Both presentations offer potential support for us in the Parish area.

However , I wisht bring your attention to a theft from a vehicle in Stoke Orchard . Please be aware

These are the incidents that have happened in your area from 5th October to 6th October.



Unknown offender(s) have forced the door on a white Ford Transit to gain access. A large amount of power tools have been stolen. No further details have been provided at this time. Stoke Road, Stoke Orchard. Cheltenham. Between 3rd and 5th October 2026. Incident 254 of 05/10/2026.


If you are leaving your vehicle for any length of time – please ensure that the doors are locked, do not always rely on your central locking key fob, and always check the door handle. Where possible do not leave anything on show, items should be locked away in the boot or removed completely.

So no thunderstorms today but the yellow warning is maintained for tomorrow! Beware!!

Just to advise you all , if you haven't already been warned, The Met Office have issued a Yellow Warning for possible severe Thunderstorms until 10.00pm this evening. Please take care and while we look forward to rain, just be prepared and take care.

Just a short post, been a busy few days on the Flood Warden Front! I spent Tuesday with a team from SevernTrent who came in to camera and jet clean the main Storm Water drain in Tredington. After 2007 it took me over 10 years to get the main drain repaired.....partially! Now in one day ,at my request, the team cleared two total blockages from tree roots and a length of the drain where the pipes are smashed and collapsing! For the moment it will drain, but the team reassured me that at the trouble spots, now marked, the pipe will be excavated and repaired! Great relief and grateful thanks to my contact at Severn Trent who facilitated this work, and the team that did the work, going I until they had completed !!!

I think we have all been shaken by the sight of homes burning like paper models in towns and villages not far from us. Please be mindful just how dry our countryside is at the moment. BE AWARE at all times and of course, no garden barbecues, no no fires, ( yes believe it, someone local lit a bonfire recently) and beware of glass bottles etc. causing hot spots. Just stay safe and be careful. Thank you.

I have just completed submitting a number of detailed and locally relevant submissions to the 2026 Strategic Local Plan. It took me the best of 22 hours dedicated time on the computer but happily the exercise was mooted last year and I had already submitted to the Parish Council last year in July 7th, an overview of the items to be suggested for consideration as requested.

I have just received back, from the Borough Council, an email of thanks which I am extremely grateful to receives as a mark of respect to the time I spent on your behalf.

HOWEVER, while this is extremely important for our future and the future not only of the Parish but also this area in general, at this moment in time, the pressing importance is the preservation of water and the prevention of fires in open countryside. Please be very aware how the most simple of accidents can cause devastating damage and danger to life and property. While the temperature is wonderful , it is perhaps not the time to use an open barbecue. One farmer watched a buzzard rest on the top of an electricity pole, spread its wings and accidentally crossed the wires. The bird burst into flames and dropped to the floor. The famer lost his entire field of corn and some adjoing areas. Please please be careful. Whilst we should leave some small container of water for the widlife, please forget the lawn for the time being. It will come back when it rains -and it will! We need to conserve as much water as we can. Thank you .

Many apologies for not making any posts recently but with the hot dry weather, there have been no flood or drainage problems to report.
Last night, I attended a two hour long Online meeting organised by the Tewkesbury Borough Council as part of the new Strategic Plan which will cover Tewkesbury Borough, Cheltenham District Gloucester and the Forest of Dean.
The meeting was to announce the setting up of a new SFRA, Strategic Flood Risk Assessment and a WCS, Water Cycle Assessement to study the management of storm water and sewage Treatment within those areas. It is of particular interest to us and I will do my best to submit information to the company appointed to manage the correlation of this information.
Those present did raise a few concerns that after this exercise was suggested 12 months ago, the company now wants all the information in 14 days!!
I have prepared several Files for them as soon as they provide us with the address to which we must send them! Watch this space!! And thank you all for "Following" this Page.
Please remember in this hot time to make sure that somewhere in your garden there is water for birds and other small animals who will be feeling the heat the same we that we are!!

Just a few words which do not refer to Flooding on this occasion but more to dealing with the heat and associated security. Firstly. Please make sure that you have an accessible water bowl or similar for wildlife. It should provide a "beach" where small animals can stand and drink and that includes birds flying in. During the warm summer in Covid we noticed birds standing under the lawn sprinkler! Since then we have maintained a mini water feature with a fountain to give the birds a chance. HOWEVER, a warning. While you keep windows open during the heat , it provides burglars with an easy way into your home. BEWARE, Lock up every thing when you go out!

WELL - that was the most amazing thunder storm and as it passed over us it stretched from Glasgow all the way to Bridgewater. A phenomenon I have never seen in that form before. Quite unbelievable and we had one strike within yards of us, possibly a transformer earth wire which shook the house. This photo was on Net Weather radar and was a few minutes later so it had moved from Glasgow to Edinburgh. On a different subject, there appears to be wave of burglaries and vehicle thefts in the Bishops Cleeve area at the present time. Please be aware and keep your eyes open and your property protected. If you see anything suspicious pick the phone up and ring the Police.

Just returned from Flood Wardens Information Event at Stonehouse today. A very interesting day with Wardens from the Cotswolds, Stroud, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury groups. We enjoyed speakers from SevernTrent, SARA, Parishes on Line, Emergency Plans, with Training break out sessions emphasising in Communication and working with Parish Councils. The event ended with an Address from Flood Mary who has spent 25 years advising on flood resilience and supporting those who had experienced flooding. We worked with her following the 2007 floods in Tewkesbury. I had some very successful and serious discussions with our neighbours and with Borough and County Flood Management and hope to work on a plan to benefit the Parish and our neighbours. More to come!
