Slieve Croob Community First Responders

Many thanks to all who attended the Friday Afternoon Tea Dance and Sunday Bingo at Leitrim Fontenoys Festival. Those attending very kindly contributed to a collection of £1,605. We also recently met with members of Liatroim Fontenoys who donated a further £500 resulting in a total of £2,105 given to us from the 2026 Festival.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed in anyway to this amazing donation and also many thanks and continued success to all at the Leitrim Fontenoys Festival

Many thanks to Leah and Gerard who both very kindly gave freely of their time during their summer holidays to hold a ‘Homemade Bake & Jam Sale’ fundraiser day on the 9th July for SCCFR
A fantastic total of £162.40 was raised on the day and both Leah and Gerard recently met with our chairperson Loretta to hand over the monies collected.
Thanks to all who donated at the event on the day and special thanks again to both of these young organisers for this very thoughtful fundraiser for SCCFR.

This is always a very enjoyable and extremely well organised event which is great for a family day out especially with the weather forecast looking good
Our sincere appreciation for the continued support from the organisers and car owners for the ongoing financial support for the 5th year running which we use to continue training and equipping our CFR volunteers for the benefit of all living within our community

Family of the late Noel Hanna, the legendary mountaineer from Finnis who peacefully passed away on 18th April 2023 during overnight rest whilst making a descent from Annapurna in Nepal, recently organised a very fitting memorial walk of Slieve Croob Mountain in Noel’s memory.

Noel who regularly climbed the highest summits on earth began his mountaineering in the hills of Slieve Croob beside his family home and always held the area around home as a place close to his heart. During the memorial walk, a plaque of Noel was unveiled at the foothill of Slieve Croob, a touching tribute which will be forever present at a place where Noel had as his back garden during childhood.

We were truly honoured that Noel’s family decided to use this memorial walk as a fundraiser for our charity.
Many attended the walk on 28th June 2026 where refreshments were also provided afterwards at Kings, Finnis.

We recently met up again with the family to be presented with a cheque for £1,716.89. This is an incredible amount and we would like to thank everyone who contributed to this collection which we will use to continue training and equipping our CFR volunteers for the benefit of all within our community who may require our services.

Pictured at the presentation is Noel’s wife Lynne, his sister Irene Hunter along with her husband Brian and their daughter Chloe, Matthew McClurg and his son Noah from plaque sponsor EUROSPAR Dromara and Paul McKay of PTM Building Services who constructed the memorial plaque presenting the cheque to our CFR volunteers Tricia Johnston, Anne Mackin and Eric Campbell.

Once again we would like to thank all of Noel’s family and friends who were involved in this memorial fundraiser. It is a sign of genuine kindness that the family decided to raise funds for our charity during their time of grief and sadness…a perfect tribute in memory of a local legend

Many thanks to all who took part at the dawn walk on the 16th May 2026 organised by Áth Bhriain C.L.G

An impressive £360 was raised at this fundraising event for our charity.

Tomorrow a charity walk in Celebration of the life of Noel Hanna will take place up Slieve Croob.

Noel was a former member of Finnis Accordion Band and has several family members in Finnis LOL 326. We would greatly appreciate if all those in the Finnis and surrounding area could come out and pay tribute to Noel at this event organised by his family.

The event will be in aid of Slieve Croob Community First Responders and parking will be available at Finnis Orange Hall from 1:30 with a shuttle bus running from the hall and down in Finnis to accomodate the very limited parking up Slieve Croob.

Noel was one of Ireland's greatest mountaineers, climbing Mount Everest ten times and becoming the first person from the island of Ireland to successfully summit and descend K2.

Remembered for his humility, kindness, and passion for the mountains, Noel inspired countless people through his remarkable achievements and adventurous spirit. Tomorrow, we celebrate his extraordinary life and the lasting legacy he leaves behind.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the renowned Down Rally for their generosity again this year. Following on from previous years fundraising events for our charity, a staggering £693.60 was raised again this year at a coffee morning. On behalf of everyone in our community who may avail of our services, many thanks to everyone involved in the rally and to everyone who contributed to the collection on the day. Particular thanks to the committee members of Rathfriland Motor Club who organise this fundraising event during what is no doubt a very busy time for them planning for the rally ensuring it continues to be a great success year on year.

The inaugural Down Rally Cars & Coffee event proved to be a fantastic success as hundreds of motorsport enthusiasts, car owners, families and spectators gathered at The Boulevard, Banbridge for a morning celebrating all things automotive.

A key part of the event was raising funds for Slieve Croob Community First Responders, and organisers were delighted to announce that an impressive £693.60 was raised within just a few hours on the day. The amount raised exceeded expectations and demonstrated the generosity of those who attended and supported the cause.
Organised by Rathfriland Motor Club, the event brought together an impressive display of rally cars, performance vehicles, classic machinery and modern supercars, creating a vibrant atmosphere for visitors of all ages. Enthusiasts travelled from across Northern Ireland and beyond to showcase their vehicles and connect with fellow car enthusiasts over coffee and conversation.
Throughout the morning, attendees had the opportunity to view a diverse range of vehicles, from iconic rally cars and historic competition machines to some of the latest high-performance road cars. The event highlighted the passion and enthusiasm that exists within the local motoring community while providing a welcoming environment for families and visitors.

Members of Rathfriland Motor Club expressed their sincere thanks to everyone who donated, attended, displayed vehicles and helped make the gathering such a memorable occasion. Special thanks were also extended to The Boulevard Banbridge for hosting the event and supporting the local automotive community.
Malcolm Johnston, Chairman of Rathfriland Motor Club, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the success of the event and the fantastic sum of £693.60 raised for Slieve Croob Community First Responders.
The support from exhibitors, visitors and volunteers was incredible, and it was great to see so many people come together to enjoy a shared passion for motorsport and cars while supporting a very worthwhile local cause.
“The atmosphere throughout the morning was superb, and it was particularly encouraging to see so many families and enthusiasts attending. On behalf of Rathfriland Motor Club, I would like to thank everyone who played a part in making the event such a success.”
The cars and coffee meeting generated significant interest in future Cars & Coffee gatherings, with organisers already looking ahead to building on the momentum and bringing even more exciting automotive events to the area.
