🌟 What a wonderful week we’ve had at Springholm Nursery! 🌟

It has been so lovely to watch the children continuing to settle, grow in confidence and build on their friendships. They have been playing together, helping one another, sharing ideas and showing such kindness and care. We are especially proud of how beautifully our older children have welcomed and supported their younger friends. 💙

Throughout the week, we have been learning more about ourselves and one another. The children have talked about their families, interests, favourite things, feelings and all the special qualities that make each of us unique. Through stories, conversations, movement, imaginative play and child-led experiences, they have been developing confidence, self-awareness and a wonderful sense of belonging within our nursery family.

On Thursday, we enjoyed our first STEM Adventure of the new term and learned all about Florence Nightingale. After watching her story, the children explored a range of hands-on challenges inspired by her life and work. They investigated germs and the importance of clean hands, practised measuring and pouring medicines, sequenced pictures, built hospital wards, listened to heartbeats using stethoscopes and cared for poorly dolls by examining and bandaging them. They also used QR codes and technology to discover more about the human body and how it works. 🩺🏥

The rest of the week was every bit as busy! The children developed their rhythm and coordination by hitting pool noodles to the beat, danced and moved along with Danny Go, enjoyed PE at the school, prepared their own snack and spent lots of time playing and exploring outdoors. From building and investigating to caring for babies, sharing books, riding bikes and creating games together, every day has been filled with meaningful learning, laughter and fun.

What an incredible week it has been—and what a joy it is to see our children becoming such a happy, caring and connected little group! 🥰

Finally, a huge thank you to Julie and Al at the Shop for the children’s lovely settling-in treat. It was such a kind and thoughtful surprise and was very much appreciated by us all! 💙

🌱 RESEARCH IN ACTION

Issue 02 – The Importance of Belonging

This week’s research explored why feeling that we belong is so important for children’s wellbeing, confidence and learning.

At Springholm Nursery, belonging is woven through everyday life. It can be seen when children seek one another out, hold hands, share their ideas and become absorbed in play together. It grows as they participate in familiar group experiences, spend time within the school and build relationships with people across our wider community.

These shared experiences help children understand that they are not simply attending nursery—they are valued members of a group. They have friends to play alongside, adults who know and care for them, and a meaningful place within the wider Springholm community.

By creating regular opportunities for connection, participation and collaboration, we help every child develop that all-important feeling:

“I am known. I am included. I belong here.” 💙

We’re really sorry for the short notice and any disappointment caused. We’ll be back as usual next week, or why not come along to our Bookbug session on Thursday from 3:00–3:30pm? We’d love to see you there! 💙

📚 Springholm Nursery Research Series 2026–2027
Issue 02 | Settling In & Relationships

This week, we're continuing our exploration of relationships by looking at something every child deserves to experience—a true sense of belonging.

Research tells us that children flourish when they know they are accepted, valued and an important part of their community. Belonging isn't simply about attending nursery; it's about feeling that "this is a place where I matter."

A strong sense of belonging develops through everyday moments. Being greeted warmly, hearing your name, having your ideas listened to, seeing your interests reflected in the environment and knowing that trusted adults are there to support you all help children develop confidence and emotional security.

When children experience belonging, they are more likely to explore new experiences, build friendships, express their thoughts and feelings, and develop resilience when faced with challenges. Feeling connected provides children with the confidence to take risks in their learning because they know they are supported every step of the way.

At Springholm Nursery, we believe that belonging extends beyond our children—it includes their families too. We know that separating from your child, especially in the early days, can be emotional. That's why we don't believe in simply saying goodbye at the door.

We operate an open-door approach, welcoming parents and carers into our nursery so they can spend time settling their child, share important information with staff and leave when both they and their child feel ready. By working together in this way, we build trusting relationships from the very beginning and create a genuine sense of belonging for every family.

When children see the important adults in their lives feeling welcomed, listened to and valued, they begin to develop that same sense of security and belonging themselves.

💙 Research into Practice

🌟 What a fantastic first full week! 🌟

The nursery has been buzzing with excitement as the children have settled into their routines, explored the environment and formed new friendships. We’ve enjoyed lots of play and discovery, spent time outdoors caring for our plants, visited the school for lunch and PE, and shared songs, stories and rhymes at Bookbug.

The children also became brilliant little bakers, making delicious fairy cakes ready for today’s launch of our Community Café! 🧁☕ It was the perfect way to finish such a busy week, and we loved welcoming families and members of our community into the nursery for a treat and a friendly chat.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make our first café so special. We’re incredibly proud of how well all our children have embraced their first full week — what an amazing start to the new nursery year! 💙
