Aquila connects with God through the elements.

In this video, she shares how she relates to the different aspects of Divine Mother through earth, water, fire, air and ether, and how each element opens a doorway to the Divine ✨

The natural settings of Skanda Vale and Somaskanda allow the elements to be magnified, and all of them are celebrated at the culmination of Navaratri during our Dasara pujas.

During Navaratri, we celebrate the Divine Mother as Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswathi.

She is in everything that you are a part of in your life. So she will relate to you as, and in what state of evolution, you are. She will give you that strength to evolve, to discover that 'total surrender' is necessary for the person to be totally liberated in this life.

Guru — Sri Subramanium (Founder of Skanda Vale), experienced her intense Shakti, seeing her as Kali and other myriad forms, and became her instrument — filled with childlike wonder at her intoxicating presence.

Divine Mother manifests when there is compassion and care for her children — the birds, animals, plants and trees. True worship of Devi is recognising the divine spark in all of life and serving it with love.

🕉️ The NAVARATRI celebrations begin on the 11th October and end with Dasara on the 20th October.

At Skanda Vale, we are blessed with a special connection to Devi as one of the core values in the community is recognising the divine in all of life and serving with love.

In this video, two of our sisters share what this festival means to them, how they prepare for it, and they explain about a simple lamp ritual you can do at home 🪔

Ten years of Somaskanda 🙏

The whole team pitched in: making garlands, cooking, decorating the ashram and preparing the pujas.

The anniversary was celebrated over two days with an abhishekam to Nandi and kumba pujas to Lord Somaskanda, Lord Ganesh and various other aspects of the Divine.

We held a beautiful and sacred yagam outside, and gathered for satsang in the temple with the community.

Both days finished with lunch in the sun, happy and uplifted.

Thank you to everyone who made this very special weekend happen.

You have to be very careful and protect this light within yourself. That light — that Divine light is an attractive force — draws everything to you, and you have to shield that light within yourself. Learning how to shield that light is a part of growing up spiritually as a human being.

When you start on a spiritual journey, you must be aware that you will draw many forces around you, to you, and you must be very discriminating and careful as you proceed on the journey of spirituality.

Spiritual evolution is not something that happens overnight. A lot of people have an idea that there is a switch inside a human being that you can put on and off, when you so desire, but it's a lifetime’s work. Any guru or swami or yogi, also has to be mindful all the time because there are many pitfalls for every human being that wants to evolve spiritually.

Those pitfalls are there because, as a person goes up the ladder of spiritual consciousness, his mind also advances to receive great grace and power, and when he is endowed with that power, he has to be that much more conscious and careful that he doesn't become an egocentric human being.

If a person is blind, you help him cross the road. If a person falls down, you pick him up. If a child is about to be knocked down by a vehicle, you rush to its assistance as if you are its mother. There is no separation. If you serve God, you serve God. There is no hocus-pocus, mumbo jumbo with that.

Modern-day saints like Mother Teresa of Calcutta weren't judgemental. Her compassion and love enveloped everybody and, in my mind, she is a great example to follow today. She was about service; service without thinking. You just do it. What is there to think about?

God won't wait to be told that such and such a person is hungry. God won't wait to be told that someone needs clothing and shelter. It is this perception of great sensitivity that enables you to serve God in humanity, and life as a whole.
