The Carlisle Southern Link Road opened on Friday, and what a difference it is already making! 🎉

Take a look at our hyperlapse video to see just how quickly the route flows đźš—đź’¨, it is great to see the road in action, and we hope everyone is finding their way around with ease.

Have you noticed a difference in your journey times yet? We heard on Friday that one driver shaved 20 minutes off their commute and got home in plenty of time to kick off their weekend, that's a brilliant result!

If you are travelling on the route, please take a moment to familiarise yourself with the new road layout, signage, speed limits and markings.

The Carlisle Southern Link Road is now officially open! 🎉

Drivers are advised to take note of new road layouts, signage, speed limits and markings when travelling on the route.

Thank you to Homes England, Galliford Try and all of our supply chain (31% were from Cumbria!) for all their hard work in completing the project.

We'd like to say a huge thanks to the public for your patience while these works were completed, we hope the new road makes your journeys quicker and easier.

The Carlisle Southern Link Road will officially open to the public from the afternoon of Friday 12 June.

Please note:
➡️ The morning will begin with a short opening event to mark the milestone, with attendance by invited guests including partners, stakeholders and media involved in the project.

➡️ The road will not be accessible to the public until the afternoon.

We will notify you tomorrow once the road is officially open.

đźš§ Carlisle Southern Link Road enters its final phase of construction đźš§

Significant progress has been made across the site in recent months, with many of the most visible elements of the new road now in place. A full Road Safety Audit is ongoing, which is a major milestone in the project, and indicates that the main contractor, Galliford Try Infrastructure, is preparing the route for public use ahead of the planned opening on Friday 12 June.

The road opening ceremony will take place from approximately 10.00am on Friday 12 June, with the road opening for public use after this event during the afternoon.

Further updates will be shared as the project reaches its final stages and preparations are made for the road to fully open.
