Visitors to the south-west coast are being advised to take extra care this week as strong swells are forecast to affect parts of the coast of Cornwall, Devon and south Wales.

Storms in the Atlantic and spring tides are likely to combine to generate large waves as well as higher than usual water levels from late Monday afternoon (25 August) into Wednesday (27 August).

Strong waves and currents could lead to people being swept out. Tides will also reach higher with the chance of people being cut off.

Follow our simple guidance to ensure you have a fun day and come home safe:

• Visit a lifeguarded beach where possible 🏖️
• Pay attention to flags on the beach 🚩
• Check the tide times and conditions 🌊
• Carry a charged-up mobile phone 📱

If you see an emergency by the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Never take inflatables to the beach.

Strong currents and offshore winds can easily sweep them out to sea.

Instead, leave them at home and enjoy them safely in the pool.

If you see an inflatable that's been blown out to sea, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

🚨Shout 🚨 12/08/25 15.15
The team along with HM Coastguard - Moylegrove were tasked to locate a person who had collapsed on the coastal path between Mwnt and Felinwynt. The casualty was located swiftly, and was clearly showing signs of Heat Stroke.
Thankfully after some cooling methods, water and shade we were able to help the casualty to safety.

‼️Please think twice about going for longer walks whilst we have these higher temperatures forecast. Make sure you have plenty of fluids if you are going to walk. Ice packs or other cooling methods in case you start to feel unwell. Seek shade and call for help immediately if needed.
