Big thank you to Father Richard Green for a fascinating talk this evening on the history of St Dyfrig, St Samson and St Barnabas churches and their communities in Grangetown. It was great to learn how the current St Dyfrig and St Samson church in Pentre Gardens came into being and how the three churches became one.

We’re looking forward to part 2 on the history of St Paul’s Church! Thanks again Father Green.

We’re delighted to announce our Spring 2026 programme of talks at Grange Pavilion. If you’re interested in Grangetown’s history you won’t want to miss these!

We kick off on 16 April with a talk from Father Richard Green on the history of St Dyfrig, St Samson and St Barnabas churches. Next up on 21 May is a talk by Nik Cornish about his ancestor Albert Cornish, who was a Wales rugby player and head of Ninian Park school. We finish the Spring talks on 18 June with a short film about Grangetown’s history called ‘Tales of Old Grangetown’.

All talks start at 6.30pm and are completely free. And there are refreshments afterwards, with a chance to ask questions and find out more about Grangetown Local History Society.

A big thanks to Cardiff Rivers Group for their sterling work in Grangemoor Park last week. Their efforts in cutting back the brambles around the Silent Links sculpture at the top of the hill means the bronze plaques are visible again! Many of the plaques were hidden in the undergrowth, so it’s the first time we’ve seen the plaque commemorating Grangetown Local History Society’s involvement in naming the park when it opened in 2000 or the plaque featuring Grange Farm in years. Here are some photos of the remaining plaques (a few have sadly disappeared over the years).

There’s more information about the history of Grangemoor Park and its origins as a huge landfill site in this Wikipedia article - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grangemoor_Park #:~:text=The%20area%20was%20originally%20known,artwork%20and%20a%20picnic%20area.
