Another year, another successful Bon Appébeast! We seem to be getting the hang of it now, so much so that by popular demand we have been asked to host a second one this year just for Scout Volunteers in the Area!

As always we have lots of thank you’s as without these people and their generous donations of time, talent or gifts, we would not be able to bring Bon Appébeast to life!

So, as well as all of our guests who we would like to thank for getting glammed up and coming out to support us, we would also like to thank;

Aggi Evans for once again a wonderful live music performance!
Wood Direct and Ashton Osborne for their generous donations for our silent auction.
Tesco for lots of raffle prize donations.
5th Barry Sea Scout Group for use of the hall and equipment.

Last but certainly not least a special mention to Baz Dyer & Jason Parsons without whose help we would not be able to transform the hall or run the bar!

See you at the next one!

Chris, Cassie, Jack, Alisha & all of the explorers from Beast ESU.

For our last evening of 2025 we had our Christmas activity and meal, where 39 of our Explorers took over Escape Rooms Cardiff before refuelling at the all you can eat buffet, a challenge they certainly rose to!

We also had our annual Beast Awards, voted for by the Explorers themselves, with this years winners being:

Beast Newcomer of 2025: Cerys.

Happy Beast: Josh, for his dancing at Awesome camp.

Donut Beast: Tom, for never remembering his group number.

Top Beast, aka the best all rounder: Rowan M

Finally the Leaders Choice Award, the only one not voted for by the Explorers: Robin, for his commitment to Scouting Skills and willingness to always teach and help others.

Thank you all for another fantastic year of Scouting in Beast ESU, and to all parents and supporters of the group that enable us to keep going!

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

A very important night in Explorers… rating the best chippy in Barry! We rated all the important factors - value for money (portion size), appearance, taste, fluffiness, greasiness and distribution of salt and vinegar. Some strong contenders, but it was decided that Lam’s kitchen Barry has the best chips overall!

Congratulations on your Platinum Award Dom!

Congratulations on your Platinum Award Dom!

Introducing our new Lord Mayor’s Own Scout troop for the next 12 months.

The annual Lord Mayor’s presentation took place at Fitzalan High School in Cardiff on Wednesday 10th September, recognising the achievement of the young people who have gained Scouting’s highest Awards and valuable Skills for Life over the past year.

Area Youth Lead Rizik Salhab stated in his welcoming messages that “These awards require a level of determination and effort that reflect both the personality and character of the individual”.

Cardiff’s Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Michael Michael presented the young people with a certificate and a white Scout neckerchief bearing the City Crest embroidered on its point. The troop is enlisted to support the Lord Mayor whenever requested, at events like the Remembrance Day parade and civic carol service.

In total there were a fantastic 68 Chief Scout Gold, 3 Platinum, 6 Diamond, 1 King's Scout award and 2 Gold Duke of Edinburgh awards presented in the presence of parents, local dignitaries and the Lord-Lieutenant of South Glamorgan, Morfudd Meredith.

We’d like to thank everyone involved in running the evening and special thanks to Jon Williams (Chief Volunteer of Wales) for his bilingual message to the award recipients and Neil Horbury (Scout Cymru Programme Team Lead) for use of the shiny new ScoutsCymru backdrop.

A big shout out goes to the cast of Cardiff Gang Show who gave a great preview of their upcoming show.

And finally a big thank you to all the leaders who helped our young people achieve their awards as they wouldn’t have been there without your support.

For our last night of the term we had some simple fun on the water, a nice way to end for the summer, with the highlight of awarding Jenny her Chief Scout’s Platinum Award, one of the top awards in Explorers. Congratulations Jenny!
