Beneath every uniform stands a family’s strength. For Sergeant Gabby and her partner Tyler that strength was tested in a way no parent should ever endure. At just six days old their son Bertie was diagnosed with heart failure. Open-heart surgery was his only chance of survival. Overwhelmed by fear, financial strain, and emotional uncertainty, Gabby made one life-changing call to SSAFA.​

Leaving the military can mean adjusting to a completely different way of life.

SSAFA’s Mentoring service provides personalised, one-to-one support to service leavers and their families as they transition to civilian life, helping them build resilience, set goals and move forward with confidence.

In 2025, SSAFA supported 1,945 people through mentoring.

In 2025, SSAFA’s Serving Community Team volunteers supported 13,227 people across the serving Armed Forces community.

That included 4,488 people brought together through Community Connection activities, while 8,416 people benefited from community grants.

Our volunteer-led teams provide financial, practical and emotional support to serving personnel, reserves and their families in the UK and on British military bases overseas.

What a fantastic four days at the Royal Welsh Show!

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by the SSAFA Wales stand to find out more about how we're supporting serving personnel, veterans and their families across Wales.

Most importantly, thank you to our incredible volunteers who gave their time throughout the week. Your passion, commitment and warm welcome made the show such a success.
