Yesterday we hosted the first Simulation (YExLS) of 2025!

The Youth Experiential Learning Simulation (YExLS) is a unique training opportunity, developed in the USA alongside young people with lived experience of criminal justice, homelessness and child welfare systems. The YExLS puts you in the shoes of a young person attempting to navigate a number of public services.

A huge thanks to for supporting us to to put on this training for senior professionals in the housing, social care, and youth services sector. We were delighted to be joined by the Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government, .

As always, we’d like to thank our wonderful facilitators - this amazing team of professionals take time out of their own busy schedules to come together and make this training possible - we could not do it without them!

And of course, a huge thank you to the folks who attended for embracing the experience, and for your insights and reflections afterwards, and to
for being excellent hosts!

Watch this space for the next Simulation announcement! 💪

Ddoe fe wnaethom gynnal yr ‘Youth Experiential Learning Simulation’ (YExLS) cyntaf o 2025!

Mae’r YExLS yn gyfle hyfforddi unigryw, a ddatblygwyd yn UDA ochr yn ochr â phobl ifanc sydd â phrofiad o fyw o systemau cyfiawnder troseddol, digartrefedd a lles plant. Mae’r YExLS yn eich rhoi yn esgidiau person ifanc sy’n ceisio llywio nifer o wasanaethau cyhoeddus.

Diolch enfawr i am ein cefnogi i gynnal yr hyfforddiant hwn ar gyfer uwch weithwyr proffesiynol yn y sector tai, gofal cymdeithasol a gwasanaethau ieuenctid. Roeddem wrth ein bodd i gael cwmni Ysgrifennydd y Cabinet dros Llywodraeth Leol a Thai, .

Fel arfer, hoffem ddiolch i’n hwyluswyr gwych - mae’r tîm anhygoel hwn o weithwyr proffesiynol yn cymryd amser allan o’u hamserlenni prysur eu hunain i ddod at ei gilydd a gwneud yr hyfforddiant hwn yn bosibl - ni allem ei wneud hebddynt!

Ac wrth gwrs, diolch yn fawr iawn i’r bobl a fynychodd am gofleidio’r profiad, ac am eich mewnwelediadau a’ch myfyrdodau wedyn, ac i am fod yn westeion gwych!

With LGBTQ+ History Month just around the corner, this week’s episode of ‘ADREF’ dives into the topic of LGBTQ+ youth homelessness. We consider why LGBTQ+ and particularly trans young people are overrepresented in the homelessness population and how social & political attitudes towards this community contribute to their likelihood of experiencing homelessness. To do this, we talk to two of the leading researchers on the subject in Wales - Rania Vamvaka & Dr. Edith England, as well as a young person who shares her perspective and experience with us.

Listen from this Wednesday, wherever you get your podcasts. 🎧

Gyda Mis Hanes LDHT+ ar y gorwel, mae pennod yr wythnos hon o ‘ADREF’ yn archwilio’r pwnc o ddigartrefedd ieuenctid pobl LDHT+. Rydym yn ystyried pam mae pobl ifanc LDHT, + ac yn arbennig pobl ifanc traws, yn cael eu gorgynrychioli yn y boblogaeth ddigartref a sut mae agweddau cymdeithasol a gwleidyddol tuag at y gymuned hon yn cyfrannu at eu tebygolrwydd o brofi digartrefedd. I wneud hyn, rydym yn siarad â dau o’r ymchwilwyr blaenllaw ar y pwnc yng Nghymru - Rania Vamvaka a Dr. Edith England, yn ogystal â pherson ifanc sy’n rhannu ei phersbectif a’i phrofiad gyda ni.

Gwrandewch o ddydd Mercher yma ymlaen, ble bynnag y cewch eich podlediadau. 🎧

What is the Social Model of Disability?🤔

If you've been here for a while, you'll know that it's one of our main values at DW. It was created by disabled people as an alternative to the Medical Model and sees disability as a social construct.

Nadolig Llawen! / Merry Christmas! 🎄🌟

We’re looking forward to some rest after a jam-packed year, before we continue to fight for better housing options for Wales’ young people in 2025!

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has worked with or supported us in the last 12 months - the young people we interviewed or who attended focus groups, the peer researchers who continue to help us promote our neurodiversity research, the colleagues who’ve advised us and attended our events and training, everyone who’s appeared on or listened to our podcast - we really do appreciate you! ❤️

Christmas isn’t an easy time for everyone. If you’re a young person who’s struggling this Christmas, you can call the Youth Homelessness Helpline on 08000 495 495 for free and confidential advice.

Rydyn ni’n edrych ymlaen at gael bach o orffwys ar ôl blwyddyn orlawn, cyn i ni barhau i frwydro am well opsiynau tai i bobl ifanc Cymru yn 2025!

Rydym yn hynod o ddiolchgar i bawb sydd wedi gweithio gyda ni neu wedi ein cefnogi yn ystod y 12 mis diwethaf - y bobl ifanc y gwnaethom eu cyfweld neu a fynychodd grwpiau ffocws, yr ymchwilwyr cymheiriaid sy’n parhau i’n helpu i hyrwyddo ein hymchwil niwroamrywiaeth, y cydweithwyr sydd wedi cynghori ni ac wedi mynychu ein digwyddiadau a’n hyfforddiant, pawb sydd wedi ymddangos ar ein podlediad neu wedi gwrando arno - rydym yn eich gwerthfawrogi’n fawr! ❤️

Nid yw’r Nadolig yn amser hawdd i bawb. Os ydych chi’n berson ifanc sy’n cael trafferth y Nadolig hwn, gallwch ffonio’r Llinell Gymorth Digartrefedd Ieuenctid ar 08000 495 495 i gael cyngor cyfrinachol am ddim.

The End Youth Homelessness Cymru Coalition was established in 2017 on the back of a campaign that prohibited the use of unsupported Temporary Accommodation (TA) for 16-17 year-olds experiencing homelessness.

Almost eight years later, we wanted to establish a picture of the realities of Temporary Accommodation for young people today. Through a series of FOI requests, we found that there has been a 71% increase in the average time 18-25 year-olds are spending in TA, and an increase of 35% for 16-17 year olds.

The full report will be published in early 2025 but, in the meantime, you can read more of the preliminary findings via the link in our stories.

Sefydlwyd Clymblaid End Youth Homelessness Cymru yn 2017 ar gefn ymgyrch a oedd yn gwahardd defnyddio Llety Dros Dro heb gymorth ar gyfer pobl ifanc 16-17 oed a oedd yn ddigartref.

Bron i wyth mlynedd yn ddiweddarach, roeddem am sefydlu darlun o realiti Llety Dros Dro i bobl ifanc heddiw. Trwy gyfres o geisiadau Rhyddid Gwybodaeth, canfuom y bu cynnydd o 71% yn y defnydd o TA ar gyfer pobl ifanc 18-25 oed, a chynnydd o 35% ar gyfer pobl ifanc 16-17 oed.

Cyhoeddiryr adroddiad llawn yn gynnar yn 2025 ond, yn y cyfamser, gallwch ddarllen mwy o’r canfyddiadau rhagarweiniol trwy'r ddolen yn ein stori.

Episode 3 of ADREF: the End Youth Homelessness Cymru Podcast is out this Wednesday!

In this episode, we consider the challenges that care-experienced young people face as they navigate leaving care with Sharon Lovell, the CEO of the National Youth Advocacy Service (NYAS), Kate Phillips, who works with care-experienced young people in Torfaen, and a young person from Flintshire, Ellie, who shares her experiences of navigating youth justice, care, and homelessness, at just 18 years old.

Although you may be busy with your festive activities this week, Christmas can be a particularly painful time for care-experienced young people, especially those who are facing homelessness - a sadly too common reality. So, take a moment to listen to this podcast and consider those young people this Christmas. 🌲
