“You never imagine you’re going to be the ones who have a disabled child. Even though it’s Caleb who is ill, Tŷ Hafan looks after our whole family. And they do it with so much respect for us."

Caleb is five years old, and for the last four years, Caleb and his family have been supported by Tŷ Hafan. His family don’t have any family close by, so for them, the hospice is a “lifeline.” Tŷ Hafan has supported the family with counselling, stays at the hospice, play therapy and advocacy 💚

When Toby, Caleb’s big brother, also became critically ill and had to go into Bristol Children’s Hospital for emergency treatment, Tŷ Hafan stepped in to look after Caleb.

"When you give a family their hand cast or foot cast back, it can be quite an emotional time.

"Maybe seeing those fingerprints and those tiny details and being able to hold the hand or the foot”, shared Emma, our Creative Arts Practitioner.

For many families, having something tangible to hold onto can mean the world. Hand and foot casts are just one of the ways we help families create lasting memories of their child 💚

They say ‘a picture is worth a thousand words' - and we know that for Tŷ Hafan families, that couldn’t be truer 📸

When your child's life will be short, those memories are absolutely precious, aren’t they? 💚

🥽 A paddle in the hydrotherapy pool might be their first-ever swim.

🛝 A play in our accessible playground might be the first time they’ve been able to go on a swing.

💤 A nap in the sensory room might be the first moment of peace your child has had all day.

That’s why we absolutely love seeing your photos. The messy ones, the blurry ones, the fancy ones...
