At the heart of every Liberia 7–15 rugby club is a simple belief: sport develops players, education develops people.

Every session begins with a pledge from every player and leader:

“Don’t criticise. Always support. Always encourage.”

These aren’t just words—they’re the values we strive to live by, on and off the field.

Each Friday, we reinforce these principles with a short educational film before training, helping to build respect, teamwork, empathy and confidence alongside rugby skills.

And because no child should have to learn or play on an empty stomach, every player and leader shares a meal together after every session.

One game. One team. One future.

It takes a team to feed a team.

Every Liberia 7–15 rugby session ends the same way: together around food and drink.

After learning, playing, supporting and encouraging one another, every player and leader receives a meal and refreshment. It’s more than food— it’s community, friendship and making sure nobody is left out.

A huge thank you to our amazing leaders who give their time each week to prepare and serve everyone.

It’s hard to believe that Liberia 7-15 has now been running weekly rugby clubs in Liberia for six months.

The transformation in many of these young people is already visible. Confidence is growing. Friendships are forming. Communication is improving. During this week’s education session, the level of interaction, participation and respect for one another was wonderful to see.

On the pitch, the players are developing rugby skills, but more importantly they are learning teamwork, discipline, encouragement and leadership. Seeing mixed groups of boys and girls competing, supporting and congratulating one another gives a glimpse of what sport can achieve when it is combined with education.

Liberia is one of the youngest countries in the world, with a population of around 5.8 million people, and approximately 40% are under the age of 14. The opportunity to positively impact lives through rugby and education is enormous.

This is only the beginning.

Yesterday was one of those days that reminds you why sport can be such a powerful force for change.

Following on from our recent introductory rugby clinic delivered by Casper Boelens and the Liberia 7-15 team, we were thrilled to present our brand-new rugby club in Liberia with rugby balls and kit generously donated by Pro-Rugby NL, Popshop Rugby and the University of South Wales.

The excitement was incredible. The children and young people couldn’t wait to get started, and the enthusiasm for the game continues to grow with every session.

I can honestly say the appetite for rugby here in Liberia is off the scale. What began as an introduction to a new sport is rapidly becoming something much bigger—a platform to build confidence, teamwork, respect and leadership, while also delivering education on preventing violence and promoting gender equality.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported this journey so far. We’re only just getting started.

Yesterday was one of those days that reminds you why sport can be such a powerful force for change.

What an absolute privilege to spend the afternoon with our Liberia 7-15 Rugby Club in Monrovia this week.

This session focused on Respect and Fair Play — values that matter just as much off the field as they do on it. It was inspiring to see the passion, confidence and leadership shown by our local team, and the enthusiasm of the young players who continue to embrace every lesson and opportunity.

The torrential rain had other ideas and stopped us from taking to the pitch, but that didn’t dampen spirits. Instead, we gathered together to watch the HSBC SVNS Women’s Final between New Zealand and Australia before sharing a meal together.

What excites me most is seeing how quickly interest in rugby is growing in Liberia. Every week, more children are discovering a sport that teaches teamwork, discipline, respect and equality — alongside our education programme focused on preventing violence against women and girls.

This is about far more than rugby.

It’s about helping young people build confidence, character and hope for the future.

Before a rugby ball is even passed at our weekly club in Liberia, the children take part in education sessions designed to help prevent violence against women and girls, promote gender equality and build confidence, self respect and life skills.

Today’s lesson focused on Discipline and Self Control.

After the lesson comes rugby, teamwork, laughter and a shared meal for every player and leader.

This is about far more than sport.
It’s about creating safer communities, stronger young people and new hope for the future through rugby.
