Last month we held our annual meeting at the Carbis Bay Hotel. In the most beautiful surroundings, the meeting contained our committee elections, a presentation to last year's President, a new notice board, a speakers board and of course cake πŸŽ‚ Here are some photos of the evening.

Some members of the Carbis Baybes Film Club met on Wednesday evening at The Badger in Lelant for a lively discussion of the film Keep Our Sea Chemical Free. Everyone watched the documentary individually beforehand, then came together to share their reactions β€” and their outrage at the issues it raises.

The 40-minute film explores what happened when the St Ives community was suddenly confronted with the reality of a chemical experiment taking place in the bay. Canadian company Planetary Technologies assured local residents that the project would help heal the ocean and combat global heating, but the absence of robust science and proper research suggested a very different story.

If you can't make it to any of CFWI's Resolution Roadshows, why not take advantage of this NFWI webinar?

On 24 April, 12.00-1.00pm, NFWI Public Affairs will be hosting a webinar on the two resolutions that have been put forward for the Annual Meeting in June; Action on Women’s Homelessness and Accessible public toilet facilities to promote dignity, health, and social inclusion.

The webinar is an excellent opportunity for members to hear from an expert speaker on each on the resolution topics and to learn more about each issue, before instructing delegates ahead of the virtual Annual Meeting.

April marks Autism Acceptance month, an opportunity for us all to come together to raise awareness of the importance of creating a society where autistic people feel supported and understood.

April is also Stress Awareness Month in the UK. Stress affects us all, and much too often it can lead to burnout, which can be harmful to both our physical and mental wellbeing. As part of our Thinking Differently campaign, this Autism Acceptance Month we seek to raise awareness of autistic burnout. Autistic people experience burnout not necessarily because they are autistic, but because many environments are designed for neurotypical brains, and consequently, these environments can be challenging for autistic people.

Over the month, we will delve into what autistic burnout looks like and what neurotypical people can do to support and create a world that is considerate and supportive of neurodivergent people.

Join us this month to help us change attitudes towards autism. Your support and understanding can help create a world that works for autistic people and their families.

Come along on Friday 24 April at 10am! No admission and no need to book. This is always a really lovely event!
