East Bridge Chorale

East Bridge Chorale East Bridge Chorale is a fabulous community choir in East Kent. We are conducted by Benedict Preece, and perform four to five large concerts every year.

We always welcome new singers! The choir is open to anyone who enjoys singing and has over 120 singers on its contact list. We perform three concerts a year in varying venues in East Kent. Our main concert is at the beginning of September so that people who want to keep singing through August can join us from other choral societies which do not rehearse then. Our first performance (of Fauré’s Requ

iem), on 20 August, 2010, in Ickham church, was directed by Benedict with organ accompaniment by Dr. David Flood. It was a huge success. The choir appeared on BBC South East Today as a result of the concert. Now, in 2022, in our twelfth year of singing, we have performed many concerts and have become a much-valued part of the East Kent musical landscape. We are proud that Benedict’s Caritas Chamber Choir was formed as a spin-off from East Bridge Chorale when he selected some of member to sing in a charity concert for ‘Catching Lives’ in March 2011. Caritas is now an auditioned choir who are regularly invited to sing in the Cathedral and further afield but still perform for charity concerts.

We are looking for singers to join us for our next set of rehearsals for Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony starting on the 24th April for 12 weeks. Subscriptions £70. At the concert on 12th July we will be performing alongside Caritas Chamber Choir accompanied by our regular pro Orchestra and celebrated soloists under the baton of our inspiring Music Director, Benedict Preece.

For many this work is considered a peak experience for choral singers due to its sheer scale, physical intensity, and the profound way it integrates the human voice into an orchestral landscape. The very first moments of the symphony are legendary as the choir enters unaccompanied and at full volume with the word "Behold!", followed by a massive brass fanfare that shifts the harmony from a stormy B-flat minor to a radiant D major on the word "Sea!" It’s going to be absolutely thrilling!
