We are very excited ! This Sunday we are taking part in the Heritage open day around the city and will be opening up The Hale's Place Chapel for locals and visitors from 11am to 5pm.
There will be a refreshments available. Tea : Coffee / Cake. And stewards on site to assist and answer questions.
Please feel free to drop by between those times and Sunday.
We will also be welcoming The Lord Mayor after lunch.

A huge THANK-YOU to everyone who helped make our very first produce show such a wonderful success. Whether you entered, baked, grew, crafted, volunteered behind the scenes, donated, bought raffle tickets, came along, or just cheered everyone on, THANK YOU!

It was brilliant to see so many people take part, and we really appreciate the time, effort, and enthusiasm you all put in.

To everyone who entered but didn’t win this year, please don’t be discouraged. Every entry helped make the show what it was, and we would love to see you back again next year. Keep going!

Mondays meeting:
We were treated to a most engaging talk by Judi Knight on ‘Making do in World War Two’. Appropriately dressed in the style of the time, Judi set out a table of artefacts from the era, which she used to illustrate what she had to tell us. Generating ‘ingenuity, education and creation’, the rationing of clothes, furniture and food, the unreliability of the supply of electricity and the reliance on coupons gave rise to some resourceful and imaginative solutions, which Judi described in detail. She illustrated her talk colourfully with the objects of the period, including a child’s jacket made from a blanket, a footstool made of empty dried milk cans, ‘Harry the Haybox’ used to keep food hot in the event of a power cut and the ubiquitous ‘Potato Pete’, with which she demonstrated how ‘chocolate spread’ was made.
A lively ‘question and answer’ session followed the talk, and all agreed that our speaker had been captivating.

From our secretary: “The wooden box (shown closed and then open) fascinated me! In the event of a power cut, you could put your partially cooked casserole in the box, surrounded by hay, cover it with a pillow and close the lid and it would finish cooking! (Known as a Haybox.)
Judi Knight was a great speaker!”
