Waterbeach’s favourite free arts festival, Summer at the Beach, is set to return this August. It’s staged at Waterbeach Barracks over the last weekend of August and the first two weekends of September, from 10am to 5pm daily.
 
This year’s event will again be held in the evocative, and historically distinctive, Cold War architecture of the ‘Terrace Units’. As always, the program promises to be filled with the highest quality mix of art, food, music and culture. A must see and do for everyone.
 
This year’s exhibition will include ceramicists, milliners, textile artists, painters, printmakers, photographers, film makers, sculptors, installation artists, musicians and performers. It’s an unmissable, accessible and family friendly event.
 
Alongside the exhibition, we will also be staging a range of free creative events and workshops for all ages and interests. These will be held on a drop-in basis throughout all weekends.
 
Refreshments will be available from the famous Pop-up Café, whose range of delicious, homemade cakes and snacks have been a deserving highlight of previous years.
 
Private view on Friday, August 29th 6pm-9pm. All are welcome.

Introducing The Hub Sessions!
FORWARD>> Do you sometimes find you spend the whole day sitting at your desk staring at a screen, and at the end of the day you feel physically and mentally blah? The Hub Sessions (at Cherry Hinton Hub) are for small business owners, freelancers and anyone working from home who wants to get away from their desk, meet other professionals, and build a supportive network.

In this first session, midday on Tuesday 29th September, Dominic Le Clare will be in conversation with Neil Bharadwa to find out more about the challenges Neil has faced as a small business owner and how being part of the local business community has helped him.

Collaboration is the key to these sessions, and we'll shape them with you as we move forward.

FORWARD>> Creative Youth Festival returns this
October half term!

A full day of creative workshop for young people, Creative Youth Festival is co-designed by Wysing's Creative Youth Council, who meet at Wysing monthly to work directly with artists. The festival is an opportunity to be creative in a welcoming and inclusive space, make connections and enjoy time outdoors at Wysing.

This year will feature workshops from Louise Ashcroft, Davinia Clarke, DJ Boss Lady, and Jack Oliver, with more still to be announced. Join us for DJ sessions, ceramics, make-up, printmaking and more.

Previously, Creative Youth Festival has seen workshops led by Uma Breakdown, Taraneh Dana, Sophie Hill, Alexi Marshall, CJ Mahoney, Alexis Parinas, Sean Roy Parker, Samsam Petherbridge, Lottie Poulet, and Shamica Ruddock.

The full schedule and workshop booking link will go live on 14 September 2026, with a number of spaces held for those who wish to join on the day. We recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment as spaces will be limited.

Tickets are available on a sliding scale, with a free option if you need it. If you can afford to pay for a ticket, please do - it helps keep our annual festival free for people who really need it. Early bird bookings and free tickets are available for local community youth groups. Get in touch with us at [email protected] if you run a youth group and would like to sign up for early access booking.

FORWARD >> I'm Sneh, and I started Sol Creative Foundry because I wanted a space where people could be creative irrespective of their background and learn about craft as a form of knowledge, that deserves the same attention we give to any other art form.

On 14 and 15 August, we're hosting Hands & Heritage, two days built around South Asian craft and textile traditions. Bandhani tie-dye. Indian woodblock printing.

Sari draping. A talk on the history behind Phulkari, Banarasi silk and Kutchi mirror work. All led by practitioners who have spent years, in some cases decades, with these techniques.

I know the name might suggest this is only for people who already know these crafts. It isn't. Most of what's on offer, you don't need any prior connection to South Asian culture to take part in or attend. What you need is an interest in how things are made, and by whose hands.

Cambridge has a long-established South Asian community, but nothing quite like this has been done here before. We wanted to start that properly, with the people who actually hold this knowledge, rather than a version of it once removed.

Entry is free. Workshops are ticketed and places are limited.

You can expect complimentary chai by Dishoom Permit Room

And breakfast and lunch by Namaste Cambridge.
