We’re recruiting NOW (for November start).
WEEKDAY HOUSEKEEPERS if you have a couple of hours to spare (weekday mornings or afternoons) to help keep the communal areas clean and prepare rooms for new guests before they arrive. Be on hand to sit, listen and talk to residents should they wish to.

Exciting opportunity - It Takes A City (Cambridge) is recruiting a Project Worker

It Takes A City (ITAC) delivers a variety of services to those who are experiencing homelessness in Cambridge or have recently experienced it.

In this role your time will be evenly split between providing support, via weekly visits, to the four residents of our community land trust’s modular home scheme and working at the site where we host our winter and summer interim/emergency accommodation projects (Crossways and 176).

You will be part of a small but experienced support team that has established an excellent reputation for delivering trauma-informed services.

Our Survive and Thrive service, which you will also help deliver, offers the opportunity to provide continuity to those that ITAC have previously accommodated (and some that we haven’t).

It Takes A City (Cambridge) are excited to announce the appointment of Cameron Holloway as the new Chair of Trustees, with effect from 1 September 2026.

Cameron has lived in Cambridge for thirteen years, and cares deeply about tackling homelessness. During his time as a Cambridge City Councillor: as Executive Councillor for Community Safety, Homelessness and Wellbeing and as Leader of the Council, Cameron championed policies to tackle inequality across the city.

"I am delighted to take up the role of Chair of Trustees at It Takes A City,” said Cameron. “I really admire their innovative and collaborative approach to tackling homelessness, and I hope that I can make a positive contribution to their work."

Cameron will succeed Chris Jenkin, the founder and current Chair of It Takes A City (ITAC) who will be retiring after leading the charity since its foundation in 2019.

Chris says, “I am delighted to welcome Cameron to the It Takes A City (Cambridge) Board of Trustees. Cameron has been, and will remain, a strong voice advocating for the needs of those experiencing homelessness and rough sleeping and I look forward to the charity making further strides in making homelessness and rough sleeping rare, brief and non-recurring in Cambridge.”

Exciting news!

It Takes A City have been chosen to present a 'Beautiful Border' at the 2026 Gardeners' World Autumn Fair at Audley End (11-13 September).

The border, called New Beginnings, will encourage people to stop, reflect, better understand the realities of homelessness and the hope that comes with the right support. This is a unique opportunity for us to share this important message with thousands of visitors.

Our volunteer Hosts play a key part in making guests feel safe, connected and cared for at Crossways.

We’re recruiting NOW (for November start) to the following roles.
EARLY EVENING HOSTS provide reception cover alongside our security steward. Be on hand to sit, listen and talk to residents should they wish to. You will arrive at 17:00 until 19:00 with the option to stay for a free evening meal.

WEEKEND DAYTIME HOSTS provide similar support to our evening team and is ideal for those with a few hours to spare on Saturday or Sunday. Typically, we would ask for cover either from 10:00 -14:00 or 14:00-18:00.

It Takes A City (ITAC) is a small charity supporting people experiencing homelessness in Cambridge.

We are looking for people with a large family or estate car who are willing to volunteer on an ad-hoc basis to collect donations (food, clothing, small items of furniture, etc.) from around the city and deliver them to our site in Chesterton.

We will cover any mileage incurred.

Before we know it, Autumn will be upon us, meaning churches, schools, faith and community groups across Cambridge will be celebrating Harvest.

We are always happy to receive your collections of cupboard essentials and non-perishable items, with every donation helping to keep the shelves stocked at Crossways and The Haven, meaning we can support more people experiencing homelessness in Cambridge.

We’ve prepared this handy list to help you. Please get in touch to arrange collection/delivery.

Our Kitchen Team volunteers play a key part in making guests feel cared for at Crossways.

We’re recruiting NOW (for November start) to the following three roles.
KITCHEN TEAM LEADS to plan and lead the preparation of a hearty evening meal. Needs a Food Hygiene Level 2 Certificate (we will help you obtain one via a simple free online course).

MEALTIME ASSISTANTS to assist in preparing and serving the evening meal as well as clearing up. Be on hand to sit, listen and talk to guests over dinner should they wish to.

FOOD COLLECTION/DELIVERY DRIVERS To collect food from Cambridge Dining Company - and deliver it to Crossways, between 17:00 – 18:30 on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

They only went and did it!

Last Saturday, our fearless CEO Elizabeth Silver and her daughter Bekah, took on the challenge of a lifetime, and raised funds to support people experiencing homelessness in Cambridge.

Without a moment's hesitation, the Dynamic Duo stepped up, strapped in and took to the skies over Duxford (attached to a plane of course!)

Lis said of their wing walking adventure “Wow (£)2500 reasons to do this today - so excited. Thank you for the amazing support to end homelessness in the city”
