Cambourne Indian Club in Cambridge hosted a joyous and colourful Onam celebration at The Hub in Cambourne on September 13, attracting approximately 150 attendees for an afternoon filled with cultural splendour and community spirit. The event, a vibrant tribute to Kerala’s harvest festival, showcased traditional rituals, performances, and games that left participants immersed in the essence of Onam.
The celebration commenced with a colorful Mahabali procession, paying homage to the legendary King Mahabali, whose benevolence is central to Onam festivities. This was followed by an enchanting Thiruvathira performance, where participants adorned in traditional attire performed the graceful Kerala dance, captivating the audience with its elegance and rhythm.
A highlight of the event was the Onam Sadhya, a lavish traditional home-made feast ( unique to Cambourne Indian Club) , featuring an array of authentic Kerala dishes that delighted attendees and fostered a sense of togetherness. The festivities concluded with a series of lively Onam games, with the tug-of-war emerging as the crowd favorite, sparking laughter and friendly competition among participants of all ages.
The Cambourne Indian Club’s Onam celebration 2025 was a resounding success, uniting the community in a heartfelt celebration of Kerala’s rich cultural heritage in the UK. The event underscored the club’s commitment to fostering cultural pride and creating memorable experiences for all.
