💜 Make May Purple 💜
💜Llanelli, The BIG stroke group 💜
Last Thursday (14th May), Carmarthenshire Community Connect Service brought together our Llanelli Men’s, Ladies and Carers peer support groups for one fantastic Big Stroke Group event.
With a private space in a local pub, Stroke Association decorations, handmade survivor keyrings, and our Big Purple Quiz (5 teams and lots of laughs!), it was a great afternoon of connection, fun and friendly competition.
So many people shared how much they enjoyed meeting others from different groups 💬
✨ And we raised £62.75 for the Stroke Association!
A brilliant example of community, support and positivity 💜

💜 Making May Purple at Neath Port Talbot Hospital 💜

A huge thank you to the incredible staff, volunteers, stroke survivors and families at Neath Port Talbot Hospital who have gone above and beyond to support this month.

From a stunning purple balloon arch created by Support Coordinator Amanda Spendiff and her daughter, alongside Support Coordinator Dave Jones, to wards decorated with purple bunting, scrunchies and displays, the effort and enthusiasm across the team has been amazing to see. It’s created such a warm and positive atmosphere for patients, families and staff alike.

It’s been wonderful to see staff, patients and visiting families getting involved, taking photos and helping spread awareness throughout the hospital and wider community.

Moments like these show the power of community, teamwork and support and how small acts can make people affected by stroke feel seen, valued and connected.

Thank you to everyone involved for helping turn conversations purple this May 💜

💜 Gwneud Mis Mai yn Borffor yn Ysbyty Castell-nedd Port Talbot 💜

Diolch enfawr i’r staff anhygoel, gwirfoddolwyr, goroeswyr strôc a theuluoedd yn Ysbyty Castell-nedd Port Talbot sydd wedi gwneud ymdrech arbennig i gefnogi y mis hwn.

O’r bwa balŵns porffor trawiadol a grëwyd gan y Cydlynydd Cymorth Amanda Spendiff a’i merch, ochr yn ochr â’r Cydlynydd Cymorth Dave Jones, i’r wardiau wedi’u haddurno gyda baneri porffor, scrunchies ac arddangosfeydd, mae’r egni a’r brwdfrydedd ar draws y tîm wedi bod yn wych i’w weld. Mae wedi creu awyrgylch mor gynnes a chadarnhaol i gleifion, teuluoedd a staff fel ei gilydd.

Mae hefyd wedi bod yn hyfryd gweld staff, cleifion a theuluoedd sy’n ymweld yn cymryd rhan, yn tynnu lluniau ac yn helpu i ledaenu ymwybyddiaeth ledled yr ysbyty a’r gymuned ehangach.

Mae eiliadau fel hyn yn dangos grym cymuned, gwaith tîm a chefnogaeth a sut gall gweithredoedd bach wneud i bobl sydd wedi’u heffeithio gan strôc deimlo eu bod yn cael eu gweld, eu gwerthfawrogi a’u cynnwys.

Diolch i bawb sydd wedi cymryd rhan am helpu i droi sgyrsiau’n borffor y mis Mai hwn 💜

💜Day 2 of the Wales Stroke Leadership Residential in Wrexham focused on collaboration, recovery and shaping the future of stroke services across Wales. 💜

Neil Miles and Jan shared how Aneurin Bevan University Health Board are developing six-month stroke reviews by listening directly to stroke survivors about what matters most to them after stroke.

Ran Palanichamy discussed life after stroke services in Powys and the importance of ensuring survivors receive the right support throughout their recovery journey.

Angela Contestible spoke about the new Senedd, the commitments in place for stroke services in Wales and setting the vision for where stroke care and support needs to go next.

The day also saw Katie Chappelle introduce problem-solving workshops with health boards, encouraging shared learning, collaboration and practical solutions to improve stroke care across Wales.

💜Roedd ail ddiwrnod Preswyl Arweinyddiaeth Strôc Cymru yn Wrecsam yn canolbwyntio ar gydweithio, adferiad a llunio dyfodol gwasanaethau strôc ledled Cymru. 💜

Rhannodd Neil Miles a Jan sut mae Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Aneurin Bevan yn datblygu adolygiadau strôc chwe mis drwy wrando’n uniongyrchol ar oroeswyr strôc am yr hyn sydd bwysicaf iddynt ar ôl strôc.

Trafododd Ran Palanichamy wasanaethau bywyd ar ôl strôc ym Mhowys a phwysigrwydd sicrhau bod goroeswyr yn cael y cymorth cywir drwy gydol eu taith adfer.

Siaradodd Angela Contestible am y Senedd newydd, yr ymrwymiadau sydd ar waith ar gyfer gwasanaethau strôc yng Nghymru a gosod y weledigaeth ar gyfer cyfeiriad gofal a chymorth strôc yn y dyfodol.

Yn ystod y dydd hefyd, cyflwynodd Katie Chappelle weithdai datrys problemau gyda byrddau iechyd, gan annog dysgu ar y cyd, cydweithio a datrysiadau ymarferol i wella gofal strôc ledled Cymru.💜

💜 What a fantastic Make May Purple morning at our Fairwater Communication and Peer Support Service! 💜

It was wonderful to welcome so many stroke survivors, carers, volunteers, and community partners together to raise awareness and celebrate the power of connection after stroke.

A huge thank you to the amazing Stroke of Harmony Choir from Cardiff for their uplifting performance the room was filled with smiles, music, and community spirit. 🎶 Special thanks to Dionne Woods, who runs both the Cardiff Stroke Social Club and the choir, for her continued dedication and support for stroke survivors across the community.

We were also delighted to welcome members of Cardiff Stroke Social Club, who shared more about the incredible work they are doing to support stroke survivors and their exciting future plans.

It was lovely to also have Esther Goodhew, Speech & Language Therapist, and Sarah, Ward Manager from the Heath, there supporting the morning and showing their encouragement for the stroke community.

The morning included a purple quiz, raffle, cake sale, and beautiful handmade shower fizzers and bath salts created by group members over recent weeks. It was inspiring to see everyone come together with such creativity, positivity, and support for one another.

Special thanks to our Stroke Recovery Service Coordinators, Steph, Natalie, and Tracey, whose support helped make the event such a success.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who attended, shared their experiences, and helped raise awareness of life after stroke. Every conversation helps people feel less alone and reminds us of the importance of peer support and community connection. 💜

💜 Am fore gwych iawn Make May Purple yn ein Gwasanaeth Cyfathrebu a Chymorth Cymheiriaid yn y Tyllgoed! 💜

Roedd yn hyfryd croesawu cynifer o oroeswyr strôc, gofalwyr, gwirfoddolwyr a phartneriaid cymunedol ynghyd i godi ymwybyddiaeth a dathlu grym cysylltiad ar ôl strôc.

Diolch yn fawr i Gôr Stroke of Harmony o Gaerdydd am eu perfformiad ysbrydoledig roedd yr ystafell yn llawn gwên, cerddoriaeth ac ysbryd cymunedol. 🎶 Diolch arbennig i Dionne Woods, sy’n rhedeg Clwb Cymdeithasol Strôc Caerdydd a’r côr, am ei hymroddiad a’i chefnogaeth barhaus i oroeswyr strôc ledled y gymuned.

Roeddem hefyd yn falch iawn o groesawu aelodau Clwb Cymdeithasol Strôc Caerdydd, a rannodd fwy am y gwaith anhygoel maent yn ei wneud i gefnogi goroeswyr strôc ar draws y gymuned a’u cynlluniau cyffrous ar gyfer y dyfodol.

Roedd hefyd yn braf cael Esther Goodhew, Therapydd Lleferydd ac Iaith, a Sarah, Rheolwr Ward o’r Mynydd Bychan, yno yn cefnogi’r bore ac yn dangos eu cefnogaeth i’r gymuned strôc.

Roedd y bore yn cynnwys cwis porffor, raffl, gwerthiant cacennau, a ffiswyr cawod a halen bath hardd wedi’u gwneud â llaw gan aelodau’r grŵp dros yr wythnosau diwethaf. Roedd yn ysbrydoledig gweld pawb yn dod at ei gilydd gyda chymaint o greadigrwydd, positifrwydd a chefnogaeth i’w gilydd.

Diolch arbennig i’n Cydlynwyr Gwasanaeth Adfer Strôc, Steph, Natalie a Tracey, am eu cefnogaeth wrth helpu i wneud y digwyddiad yn gymaint o lwyddiant.

Yn bwysicaf oll, diolch i bawb a fynychodd, a rannodd eu profiadau, ac a helpodd i godi ymwybyddiaeth o fywyd ar ôl strôc. Mae pob sgwrs yn helpu pobl i deimlo’n llai unig ac yn ein hatgoffa o bwysigrwydd cymorth cymheiriaid a chysylltiad cymunedol. 💜

14/05/2026

Day 1 of the Wales Stroke Leadership Residential at the Ramada Plaza in Wrexham brought together stroke leaders from across Wales with one clear focus keeping stroke survivors at the heart of everything we do.

We began by hearing Stephen’s powerful stroke survivor story, which set the tone and became our “North Star” for the two days ahead. His experiences were a reminder of why improving stroke services matters so much.

There were important discussions around the new Quality Statement and Service Standards, with contributions from Shakeel Ahmad and Jackie Irwin, alongside wider conversations about transforming stroke care across Wales following the recent Senedd elections.

Daeth Diwrnod 1 Preswylfa Arweinyddiaeth Strôc Cymru yn y Ramada Plaza, Wrecsam, â arweinwyr strôc o bob rhan o Gymru ynghyd gydag un ffocws clir cadw goroeswyr strôc wrth galon popeth rydym yn ei wneud.

Dechreuon ni drwy glywed stori bwerus Stephen fel goroeswr strôc, a osododd y naws ac a ddaeth yn “North Star” i ni ar gyfer y ddau ddiwrnod nesaf. Roedd ei brofiadau yn ein hatgoffa pam mae gwella gwasanaethau strôc mor bwysig.

Cafwyd trafodaethau pwysig ynghylch y Datganiad Ansawdd newydd a’r Safonau Gwasanaeth, gyda chyfraniadau gan Shakeel Ahmad a Jackie Irwin, ochr yn ochr â sgyrsiau ehangach am drawsnewid gofal strôc yng Nghymru yn dilyn etholiadau diweddar y Senedd.

Clywsom hefyd gan Brif Weithredwr y Stroke Association, Juliet Bouverie, a Deb Lowe yn ystod trafodaeth banel gyda Syr Stephen Powis, yn archwilio arweinyddiaeth, cydweithio a dyfodol gwasanaethau strôc. Rhannodd Juliet hefyd ffocws strategol newydd y Stroke Association a’i huchelgeisiau ar gyfer y blynyddoedd i ddod.

Diwrnod llawn sgyrsiau, syniadau, dysgu ar y cyd a myfyrio ac ymdeimlad gwirioneddol o ymrwymiad ledled Cymru i wella bywyd ar ôl strôc.

Edrych ymlaen at Ddiwrnod 2.

We also heard from the Stroke Associations CEO Juliet Bouverie and Deb Lowe during a panel discussion with Sir Stephen Powis, exploring leadership, collaboration and the future direction of stroke services. Juliet also shared the Stroke Association’s new strategic focus and ambitions for the years ahead.

A full day of conversations, ideas, shared learning and reflection and a real sense of commitment across Wales to improving life after stroke.

Looking forward to Day 2.
