Due to low water levels, we closed all fishing on the south lake, but today have further closed two swims in the north lake. You can still cast across to these areas, just no fishing from the High Wall Swims. Please also take care when fishing the Long Wall.

Fingers crossed for rain soon

WHAT A FANTASTIC DAY AT CAERPHILLY CASTLE!

We would like to say a massive thank you and well done to every junior who attended today’s Junior Carp Competition!

It was a long and hot day, but every single junior stuck at it and did themselves proud.

A special mention must go to the juniors fishing along the south side. It was particularly weedy and challenging over there, but there is no doubt that they improved their skills and gained plenty of valuable experience throughout the day. Our bailiffs were on hand, talking them through different techniques and helping them overcome the difficult conditions.

A total of 16 fish were hooked, with 14 successfully landed and only two lost!

1st Place – Dewi Lloyd
An incredible total weight of 101lb 4oz! Including A NEW PB 🎉🎉🎉

Dewi is completely new to the water, and this was his very first time fishing Caerphilly Castle. To produce a result like that on his first visit is absolutely outstanding — he completely smashed it! Massive congratulations, Dewi!

2nd Place – Tobias Ursell
A brilliant total weight of 87lb 5oz!

Biggest Fish – Harrison Davis
An absolute beauty kniwn as Patch weighing 31lb! A NEW PB 🎉🎉🎉

A huge thank you must also go to all of our bailiffs who attended, Ron, Dan and Paul stayed throughout the entire day and gave their time to help, encourage and support the juniors.

We would also like to give a very special thank you to Rhian and Daivd, who joined us as Level 2 coaches and helped us get the event underway. Their coaching experience, knowledge and first-aid qualifications helped make it possible for the competition to take place safely and successfully.

Finally, an absolutely enormous thank you to all of our incredible sponsors.

Without their generosity, many of these youngsters would not have the equipment, bait, guidance and continued support they need to keep enjoying fishing for many months and, hopefully, many years to come.

Your support does far more than provide prizes and equipment, it helps introduce the next generation to our sport, builds their confidence and gives them opportunities and memories that can last a lifetime.

A massive thank you to:

⭐ Baitworks
⭐ Fox International

⭐ Greens Fishing Tackle
⭐ Nathan Lidster
⭐ Julian P Cundiff
⭐ Ross Partridge Lamby Lake
⭐ Jason Massay Hendra Lake
⭐ Rhian Bomber and Dave
⭐ BTD UK
⭐ Brian Warrick for
⭐ Adam Penning

Your generosity and support are hugely appreciated by the club, the juniors and their families. We genuinely could not provide days like this without you!

Well done again to all of our young anglers. The patience, determination and sportsmanship shown throughout the day were brilliant to see, and the future of our club and our sport is certainly looking bright!

Regards,
Simon

River Rhymney Closed for fishing!

Due to low water and high temperatures, we have decided to close all fishing on the River Rhymney.
This is to protect our fish for the future.
These conditions mean that there is less oxygen in the river for the fish to breath making like a lot harder overall. Fishing for them in these conditions often lead to death after capture in both greyling and trout. This can happens even if the fish appears to swim off strongly.

Bait anglers, be mindful that maggot use at this time of year is not ideal as the maggots in your loose feed go rancid quick and suck the oxygen out of the river in these conditions. Please consider using another bait or a different method in summer.

JUNIOR COMPETITION UPDATE

Caerphilly and District Angling Association can confirm that the Junior Competition will go ahead this Sunday as planned.

However, the welfare of our fish must always come first. If we believe the fish are at risk, the competition will be cancelled, potentially at short notice.

Should this happen, a new date will be arranged and announced as soon as possible.

Following the competition, the club will also review the possibility of reopening Caerphilly Castle Moat to all members. A further update will be provided once this review has taken place.

Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing all our junior anglers on Sunday!

⚠️ Lake Closure Notice for Cearphilly Castle⚠️

Due to recent spawning activity, the extremely hot weather, and concerns around low oxygen levels in the water, we have made the decision to keep the lake closed until conditions improve.

This decision has been made with fish welfare as the main priority. The fish have already been under stress from spawning, and with the current heat adding further pressure, we do not want to put them at any additional risk.

We understand this may be frustrating, but we ask all members to respect the closure and help us protect the fish during this difficult period.
The lake will remain closed until we are confident conditions are safe enough to reopen.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
