Sadly had my first strimmer injury of the season..
this poor little boy was found on a roadside verge between Litton and Cressbrook. He was covered in maggots and fly eggs, suggesting it had happened a few days before.
The picture is after I cleaned the maggots off.

He was a good way from any houses so suspect he’d run away after it occurred…😢

The wounds on his side are classic strimmer injuries, but he had a nasty leg infection too with an open wound. Sadly this tracked into the broken bones(seen on xray). 😢

All I could do was euthanise him as osteomyelitis risk is so high and hogs can’t be released with front leg injuries this severe.

Please please check before major gardening work or strimming! It doesn’t take much out of your day to feel through the grass you’re about to strim..it could literally save a life 🦔🦔❤️

As everything dries up this weekend, let's support our hedgehogs and keep them hydrated and happy in the hot weather with a shallow dish of water on ground level 🦔

A water dish may attract other wildlife too!

Great to get some more hoggies released especially as getting more in..

Harry from Tideswell left today after coming in at 605g(out in day). She had lungworm and fluke and after successful treatments, left at 942g.. thanks Fiona and Peter for releasing her back and Ken for helping them find my rescue 🦔❤️

Hare from Earl Sterndale arrived at 408g with lungworm, capillaria, fluke and ringworm. He left at 649g 🦔🦔

Arthur from New mills was wobbling across a road in the day (severe dehydration if you see one wobbling; treatment at rescue or vets is urgent!)
He had a nasty ear infection, fluke and capillaria. He was 671g and left today at 880g. Such a sweet boy ❤️🦔

Remember to keep putting water out for your hedgehogs

Be careful when gardening, as babies are likely to be being born in coming weeks. Care round compost heaps and wood piles as hedgehogs frequently nest here..

Also take care with the strimmers.

Cut high and work down slowly and please check before you strim to help protect these gorgeous creatures 🦔🦔🙏🙏 rescues see too many injuries at the time of year 😢

Thanks to everyones wonderful donations, I’ve managed to purchase 2 fabulous Brinsea incubators for my poorly hedgehogs ❤️❤️
I’m so pleased as these bits of kit are essential for collapsed dehydrated hogs
