𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗢𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿

Devon County Council will carry out overnight surface works on East Street, Exeter Road and the road past Fatherford Farm from Monday 14 to Friday 25 September.

𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲

- Works run overnight only, 7pm to 7am
- Roads stay open all day, every day
- The town centre, industrial estates and railway stations keep normal daytime access

Overnight, drivers follow the signed diversion via the A30. The "route-based treatment works" simply means resurfacing to keep our roads in good shape for years to come.

We'll share any changes to dates as soon as we hear them.

We showcased it at Okehampton Show, attracting 40 BID QUIZ entries on what it does! Amongst many on right lines, Seiche chose: "Underwater microphone, receiving sound from either mammals or submarines" as best and Okehampton BID have awarded £50 of Harvest Farm Shop food vouchers to the winner. Well done everyone!

🚉 This Saturday, Okehampton gets a second station.

Okehampton Interchange opens its doors on Saturday, 1st August, and it is a genuinely exciting moment for our town.

Just two minutes from the A30, the new Interchange has been designed to broaden options and make Okehampton easier to reach than ever. Whether you are coming in from Exeter, heading out across Devon, or arriving by bus, bike or electric vehicle, this is infrastructure that works for everyone.

For our businesses, that means more footfall, more visitors, and more reasons for people to choose Okehampton. For our community, it means better-connected, more sustainable travel right on our doorstep.

A huge thank you to Great Western Railway, the Department for Transport, Devon County Council, West Devon Borough Council, Network Rail and everyone else involved for making this happen. 🙌

Following the fantastic success of last year's event, our partners at Unique Events (SW) CIC are looking to make this year's Edwardian Evening even bigger and better. We're inviting local businesses, independent retailers, artisan makers, food producers, and market traders to be part of this much loved community celebration as we kick-start the festive season in Okehampton.

Edwardian Evening

👋 𝗛𝗶 𝗢𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗻. 𝗜'𝗺 𝗗𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗮𝗻, 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗕𝗜𝗗 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿

I have been part of this town for over 50 years. I went to Okehampton School, worked on the local farms and in the factories as a teenager, and this place has never stopped feeling like home. So when this role came up, it felt less like a job application and more like an opportunity to give something back.

Over the next few weeks, you are going to see a lot more of me. I am already out meeting businesses across the town centre and the industrial estates, and I am making sure every conversation I have feeds directly into how the BID shows up for you. Alongside that, we are getting the right tools and processes in place so our communications are clearer, our decisions are better informed, and nothing falls through the gaps.

North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team has launched Through the Darkness—one of the most serious endurance event challenges on Dartmoor. Starting at dusk on 20th June, you run, jog, or walk 12km laps around the northern moor edge for 12 hours straight, finishing as the sun comes up.

Mixed gravel and tarmac terrain. 305 metres of elevation per lap. Solo or team. This is not a fun run! We're being honest! However, you will feel like a million dollars when you are wearing your medal.

It starts at Okehampton Army Camp, right here on our doorstep, and every single penny raised goes directly to the North Dartmoor Search and Rescue charity. No government funding. No safety net. Just volunteers, on-call 24/7, 365 days a year.

And here's one for the business owners reading this. This is a brilliant staff fundraiser. Enter a team, sponsor your people, and support a charity that protects everyone in this community. It's team building with a genuine purpose.
