We're bringing UKPAC to town, and it's now open to every business in the EX20 postcode.

Think of it as a digital neighbourhood watch for local businesses. One place to share alerts about crime and suspicious activity, track offenders, and get justice faster.

🚧 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲: 𝗢𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲

If you've been through the centre today, you'll have seen the congestion, with queues back into Market Street Car Park by Waitrose, and traffic building off West Street and Fore Street, jamming the crossroads.

Okehampton BID has spoken with National Grid today to get you the answers. Here's what they told us:

The works are emergency repairs to fix a street light fault, so they can't be put off.

Because of the congestion, particularly around traffic to and from the primary school, National Grid are running manual traffic light control each day between 07:00 and 09:30, and again between 15:30 and 18:30, to reduce the worst of it.

They expect the repairs to be finished and the temporary lights removed before the end of 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟳 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿.

If you're heading in at those times, please allow a few extra minutes and take care near the crossroads. The works are unavoidable, but the town's shops and businesses are open as usual, so it's still well worth the trip.

𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲: 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁. 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🚆 / 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲

We've got more detail to share, and it's an important one. Our last update mentioned overnight access works. Devon Highways have now confirmed that some of those nights involve a 'full closure' to all vehicles, not just a diversion, and we see a potentially significant impact to a few people and businesses. Here's what that means for you.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 (all overnight, 7pm to 3am approx)

• 14–15 Sept: Higher Stockley Mead and new Railway Interchange car park
• 16–17 Sept: the middle, around Moorcroft Close and Beardown Road
• 21–23 Sept: western end, around Fatherford Lane

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿

• Late-shift or 24hr businesses near Higher Stockley Mead: if your vehicle sits the wrong side of the closure (including the new Interchange Station car park), you could be stuck until the road reopens at 3am. Plan your parking on those nights.

• Moorcroft Close and Beardown Road: head out the back of the estate on 16–17 Sept.

• Fatherford Lane and Baldwin Drive: allow a few extra minutes to loop round and re-join the B3260 on 21–23 Sept.
Roads stay open as normal through the day. This only affects the overnight hours above.

𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗢𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿

Devon County Council will carry out overnight surface works on East Street, Exeter Road and the road past Fatherford Farm from Monday 14 to Friday 25 September.

𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲

- Works run overnight only, 7pm to 7am
- Roads stay open all day, every day
- The town centre, industrial estates and railway stations keep normal daytime access

Overnight, drivers follow the signed diversion via the A30. The "route-based treatment works" simply means resurfacing to keep our roads in good shape for years to come.

We'll share any changes to dates as soon as we hear them.

🚉 This Saturday, Okehampton gets a second station.

Okehampton Interchange opens its doors on Saturday, 1st August, and it is a genuinely exciting moment for our town.
