✈️ SUMMER RECAP ✈️

As summer draws to a close, 511 is hard at work preparing for the winter training syllabus. But for now, here are some highlights from our summer activities:

🪖 1940s Weekend 🪖

511 had a fantastic time at this years 1940s weekend! From our paintball stall, we raised just over £450 pounds to contribute towards a new flight simulator. Cadet Sergeant Fleet also made the squadron proud by taking part in the Sunset Parade as a standard bearer.

✨ Badges ✨

Congratulations to Cadet Corporal Edwards for achieving her Silver Leadership badge, Cadet Fox for achieving her Essential First Aid badge, and Cadet Corporal Green and Cadets Thomas and Banks for their Bronze Shot badges!

🏅 Leadership 🏅

Cadets were given a series of tasks such as navigating minefields and creating bridges to train their leadership and teamwork.

🧪 STEM 🧪

After learning about the crucial work of Alan Turing during WW2, cadets were tasked with building a working enigma machine using Pringle cans and paper.

🎯 Shooting 🎯

Congratulations to Sergeant Thomas for passing his fundamental coaching course! This means that a lot more cadets are progressing through the shooting syllabus.

🏹 Archery 🏹

As a last bit of fun before summer ends, cadets experimented with different archery positions, including firing while seated.

Sounds interesting? If you’re in year 8 and over the age of 12 and under the age of 17, come to our recruitment evening on 24th September 2026 at 19:30! For more details, visit our profile. We look forward to seeing you!

✈️RAMSEY 1940s WEEKEND✈️

At the Ramsey 1940s weekend, 511 (Ramsey) Squadron worked alongside 73 (Huntingdon) Squadron throughout the event, we raised money for our squadron, as well as promoting the air cadets.
To do this we ran a paintball range that was very successful in raising around £450 to support our squadron.
On Saturday morning some of the cadets took part in the memorial service. Cdt Taylor and another cadet representing 73 SQN took part in the memorial parade. Furthermore, Cadet Sergeant Fleet and Cadet Sergeant Tompkinson from 73 SQN participated in the drum and ceremonial parade carrying their squadron banners in their 2A dress uniform.

✨May 2026✨

In May we started the month off with 511 staff in Holland on a trip organised by our own WO Neil Whymark - this trip was a great success and we look forward to next year already🤩

We also bid a farewell to WO Nathan Eyre who handed over to our new OC FS Stuart Wren.
As a squadron we are incredibly grateful for the time WO Eyre spent with us and wish him all the best in his future endeavours within the Corps and hope to see him around😊

We gave badges out to cadets and also concluded the month with an air r***e shoot on the squadron.

✈️ STEM Challenge✈️

Cadets put their aerodynamics knowledge to the test by designing and flying competition gliders. After build phases and flight trials, teams refined their designs to maximise lift and minimise drag.

A brilliant hands-on session linking to RAF aviation principles.
Well done all!
