Did you know that Burnley has a 'sister' town all the way in France? 🇫🇷🇬🇧
For over 60 years, Burnley has been officially twinned with Vitry-sur-Seine, just outside of Paris. It’s such a wonderful piece of our town’s history—these twinning partnerships were originally started after the war to build lasting friendships, foster cultural exchange, and bring communities together across borders.
It’s lovely to think about the connections we have to the wider world! 🌍
How many of you knew about our French connection? Or better yet, has anyone ever visited Vitry-sur-Seine or taken part in any twinning events over the years? We’d love to hear your stories in the comments! 👇

The situation on Hillingdon Road Lanehead burnley has become completely unmanageable. It feels like every corner is blocked by temporary traffic lights, and for those of us living in Lanehead, it’s turning our daily commute into a daily struggle. 🚗🛑
How many sets of lights do we actually need on one road? It’s time we get some transparency on why this is happening and when we can expect things to get back to normal. Are you feeling the impact of these roadworks too? Let’s hear your thoughts below. 👇

🗳️ BURNLEY ELECTION 2026
A NEW CHAPTER FOR TOWN HALL
The final results are in, and Burnley is officially a 'No Overall Control' council. Here is the breakdown of your new Town Hall makeup:
The Big Numbers:
🔹 Reform UK: 13 seats (Now the largest single party)
🔴 Labour: 10 seats
⚪ Burnley Independent Group: 10 seats
🔶 Liberal Democrats: 5 seats
🔷 Conservative: 4 seats
🟢 Green Party: 3 seats
With 23 seats needed for a majority, no single party can govern alone. This means the coming days will be filled with negotiations as parties look to form a coalition or a minority administration to lead our town.
🚨 Gannow Update & Retirement News:
A significant moment for the Gannow ward today as Reform UK makes a key gain. Following the result, we can confirm that long-standing Conservative Councillor Neil Mottershead has announced his retirement from local politics.
Neil has been a dedicated voice for the Gannow community for many years, and regardless of party politics, we thank him for his service to the people of Burnley. 👏
What do you think of the results?
Are you happy with the new balance of power? Who would you like to see working together to run Burnley Council?

Brennand Street near Queensgate is now CLOSED.

This £55 million project was secured back in 2023.

At the time, county councillors supported the project, despite it being a major route connecting both sides of the town.
Now, hundreds of residents are dealing with disruption and daily chaos because of this closure.

The project was approved years ago, and there was plenty of time to properly inform the public before works began.

So the question remains , where does responsibility actually lie, and why is the blame being shifted?

The Oaks Hotel is showing as “permanently closed” on Google 😳
But locals are confused… because that’s not actually true

Big changes are planned including upgrades to rooms, spa and facilities
It’s temporarily closed — not gone 👀
Good news for Burnley or too little too late? 🤔

THE NEW BIN ERA:
Are we recycling more or just running out of space? 🗑️🤔
Burnley and Padiham, the "Rainbow of Responsibility" has officially arrived! With the new weekly food waste collections launching this week (April 2026), our driveways and back streets are looking a lot more crowded.
We’ve been speaking to locals, and it’s fair to say opinions are split right down the middle.

The Concerns 😤
Many residents, especially those in our terrace rows, are asking the big question: "Where are we supposed to put them all?" With up to five different bins and caddies to manage, some feel it’s becoming a full-time job. Plus, there’s the worry about pests and the confusing rules around what goes where.

The Support 🌱
On the other side, many are praising the move! Taking food waste out of the general rubbish helps the environment and means the "smelly stuff" gets picked up every week instead of every fortnight. Supporters say it’s a small price to pay for a greener Burnley.

The Council's View 🏛️
Burnley Council says these changes are part of national "Simpler Recycling" reforms to stop waste going to landfill. But with fines for "wrong items" being a hot topic, not everyone is convinced.

Maybe now we can get those repairs moved from the 'To-Do' list to the 'Already-Done' list?

According to STV News, Heidi Alexander’s Mini Cooper had to be towed away after she hit a pothole so large that astronauts on Artemis II probably spotted from the Moon! 👩‍🚀🌑
