Our final title of this season is Vermiglio released in 2024 to great aclaim.

Vermiglio is a beautifully observed drama about a poor remote alpine community of that name set in 1944 during the privations of World War II.

Members are invited to join us at 5.00pm or 8.00pm on Wednesday April 15th.

As the days grow longer we reach the penultimate film of our season. Released in 2023, Perfect Days is a Japanese/German co-production and was Oscar nominated in 2024 for best international feature film.
The film follows the routine life of Hirayama, a public toilet cleaner in Tokyo. Not much happens, but that is the beauty of the story.
We hope to see members on Wednesday March 18th for screenings at 5pm and 8pm. Bar from 7.30pm

On Wednesday 25th we are showing The Quiet Girl, released in 2022. This film made history as the first Irish language film to be nominated for an Oscar for best international feature film. If you are in need of a gentle, funny, feelgood movie on February 4th this film should fit the bill. Shall We Dance was released in Japan in 1996. It features a successful, happily married, yet dispirited salaryman who has lost his lust for life, but who finds joy after he signs up for dance classes.

A Complete Unknown transports us back to the early 1960s and the emergence of a young Bob Dylan. Timothy Chalamet leads the cast . The film received 8 Oscar nominations, including best actor, but failed to win in any of the categories. A cantankerous, unpopular teacher, a bright, abrasive student and the school’s head cook, a recently bereaved mother, find themselves forced to spend the winter school holiday together in an otherwise empty New England elite academy. Set in 1970/71 The Holdovers is a Christmas movie, complete with an atmospheric dusting of snow but don’t expect a cosy comfort blanket of a film.

We have showings at 5pm and 8pm on Wednesday Dec 10th and in between we will be offering complimentary mulled wine and mince pies.

Our next film on Wednesday 12th really needs no introduction. Oscar and Bafta winning Conclave is based on Robert Harris' 2016 novel and stars Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci and Isabella Rossellini. In between the 5pm and 8pm screenings we will hold our AGM at around 7.15pm. A complimentary glass of wine or a soft drink is on offer to encourage you to join us before or after your chosen screening.

The autumn equinox signals the start of our season of films at Budleigh's Public Hall. On Wednesday 24th we are showing an Iranian film, My Favourite Cake. Mahin, a widow for 30 years, without quite admitting it to herself, breaks out of her aimless daily schedule in the hope of meeting a man. She spots Faramarz, a cab driver, at a café. This sweet and funny film explores their time together. Showings at 5.00pm and 8.00pm
