We know asking a couple of extra questions at the till can feel like a hack when you’re already flat out serving banging coffee all day

BUT schemes like Cup Club Bude only work because café teams make them work.

Explaining the cups, asking whether people are borrowing or returning, handling deposits - it all matters. Those tiny interactions are what turn reuse from “nice idea” into normal everyday behaviour.

So yes, it’s a bit of a hack sometimes.

But it also helps cut waste, save cafes money, reduce litter and keep thousands of single-use cups out of the bin.

Big love to all of our member cafés and their brilliant teams for getting behind it Tamar Lake Café River Life Cafe Berries Community Cafe North Coast Wine Lounge & Shop Rosie's Kitchen Bude & Greater Area Chamber of Commerce Sandymouth Café Little Pig Wellness The courtyard cafe The Castle Bude Crooklets Beach Cafe

A growing number of cafĂ©s across Bude are backing Cup Club and showing that they’re willing to do more than just talk about sustainability. They’re actually making changes, investing in reuse and being part of a solution and it’s already proving a success.

These are businesses that understand the problem with single-use and are prepared to try something different. They know customers care about waste, plastic and the environment and instead of waiting for someone else to fix it, they’re stepping up themselves.

Running a returnable reusable system takes effort, collaboration and commitment. The cafés involved deserve real credit for getting behind a grassroots community pilot and helping prove that reuse can work in a busy seaside town.

Bude should be proud of the businesses leading the way - River Life Cafe
