We’re incredibly grateful for the generous donation from Buckfastleigh WI we received today. This support will help us reach our fundraising goal to purchase a custom ramp for our Memory Café on the steam train at South Devon Railway, making it easier for everyone to come and go safely, comfortably, and with dignity.

Dementia, combined with other age-related challenges, can affect balance, coordination, and confidence, so a ramp will make a huge difference in helping people stay engaged with a community that supports their wellbeing and resilience.

Thank you again to Buckfastleigh WI!

🎂🎉🍰HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!!🍰🎉🎂

We have just celebrated our 80th birthday! Here we see past and present presidents and committee members, cutting a fabulous cake made and decorated by one of our members.

What have we been up to?

We welcomed Dr Peter Moore to our March meeting. He gave us a very interesting and entertaining talk about his experience of being a ‘police surgeon’ throughout his career. We all learned a lot about this role, although much of it is undertaken by specially trained nurses and paramedics in more resent times.

11 of our members had a thoroughly enjoyable meal at the Singing Kettle to celebrate International Women’s Day. We are looking forward to hosting an event for local WIs next week, an evening full of fun and friendship! We are also looking forward to marking our 80th Anniversary with a celebratory meal soon.

Our annual meeting will be on Tuesday 14th April when we will not have a speaker as we will be making decisions for our year ahead. Local ladies are welcome to come along and join us – it would be lovely to meet you and your first visit is free.

The WI is a great place to make new friends and become involved in local and national events. Our meeting are 7pm – 9pm in the lounge at St Luke’s Church, Buckfastleigh. For more information you can also contact us at [email protected] or via our page.
