UTCC Update: Refreshing Our Approach

UTCC is evolving to better reflect the time and availability people can commit, while
continuing to deliver value for our community.

Following a recent review, we’ve reaffirmed the important role UTCC plays in:
• Amplifying the community voice on local issues through our councillors and
SBC (e.g. bus services)
• Providing access to funding, including micro grants and youth bursaries
• Supporting community resilience, such as neighbourhood watch initiatives
• Backing local projects, including the Local Park and Community Pub

A More Flexible Way of Working

To make participation more accessible, we are proposing a refreshed structure:

• Four formal meetings per year (August, November, February, May)
• Continued engagement through:
o Bite and Blether sessions
o Facebook updates and discussions
o Additional meetings as needed

Discussions with local councillors have confirmed that a less formal but still
connected structure is widely used and fully acceptable, particularly given the
challenges of filling formal roles.

Get Involved

We are keen to welcome new members, ideas, and input to help shape our future
focus. If you’re interested in joining UTCC or contributing in any way, we’d love to hear
from you.

🌟 Your Village Needs You – Community Council Members Wanted! 🌟

Our village Community Council is looking for new members — and this is your chance to help shape the future of our community. 💙🏡

With both our Chairs and Treasurer stepping down, we’re looking for fresh faces, new ideas, and people who care about keeping our village thriving. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference locally, and there’s even the option to share responsibilities through joint chair roles, just as Steph & Justin successfully did.

The Community Council plays a hugely important role in village life by:

🏘️ Representing the views of local residents
🏘️ Supporting community projects and improvements
🏘️ Applying for and allocating funding, including Micro Grants & Youth Bursaries
🏘️ Acting as a voice for the village with the local authority
🏘️ Helping protect the services, heritage, and wellbeing of our community

Without a functioning Community Council, our village risks losing an important voice in local decision-making — as well as access to valuable funding opportunities.

You don’t need previous experience to get involved.
Just a little time, enthusiasm, and a passion for supporting our community.

Interested in:
✔️ Becoming a member
✔️ Taking on the role of Chair or Treasurer (job sharing welcome)
✔️ Finding out more before deciding

Please comment below or send us a message — we’d love to have a chat and answer any questions.

Together, we can keep our village strong, connected, and heard. 💙

📣 Community Council – New Members Needed!

Hello everyone,

Our village Community Council is looking for new members, and we’d love to hear from anyone who might be interested in getting involved.

Both our Chairs and Treasurer are stepping down, which means we now have an important opportunity for fresh voices and new energy to help guide the work we do for our community. The team will meet bi-monthly and, as Steph & Justin did, there is an opportunity to share the load and have joint chairs.

Living in a small village means our Community Council plays a vital role in:

🏘️ Representing local views
🏘️ Supporting community projects and improvements
🏘️ Applying & Allocating funding - 🏘️ Micro Grants, Youth Bursaries...
🏘️ Being a voice for the village with the local authority
🏘️ Helping safeguard the services, heritage, and wellbeing of our area

Without a functioning council, our community loses an important way to influence decisions that affect us as well as a mechanism to receive and allocate funding.

You don’t need any special experience to join.
Just a bit of time, a willingness to get involved, and a passion for keeping our village thriving.

If you’re interested in:

✔️ Becoming a member
✔️ Putting your name forward for Chair or Treasurer
✔️ Learning more before deciding

Please comment below or send us a message.
We’d be delighted to chat and answer any questions.

Let’s keep our village’s voice strong – your community needs you! 💙🏡

91/93 Bus Loop Proposal - Community input requested

SBC are currently reviewing a proposal to modify the 91 & 93 bus services to create a loop ( proposed Timetables below). From a Broughton perspective, this proposal appears to reduce the number of buses from Broughton to Biggar and Broughton to Peebles from 4/day to 3/day, but adds other flexibility. Please let us have your feedback on the proposal so we can represent your views.

Many thanks
