Dachshund Rescue UK - Finding Forever Homes

Dachshund Rescue UK - Finding Forever Homes Dachshund Rescue UK is an independent rescue charity and has been in existence for almost 50 years.
(1)

It was decided in 2014 to apply to the Charity Commission for Rescue to become a registered charitable company and this was achieved in December 2014. There is a Board Of Trustees overseeing the work of the organisation and the day to day work is managed by our volunteer co-ordinators based all over the UK. If you are looking to adopt a Rescue Dachshund, we are in the fortunate position whereby th

e number of people wanting a Rescue Dachshund exceeds the number coming into Rescue. We have an adoption application process that enables us to carefully match the needs of the Dachshund to the most suitable applicant and a strict vetting procedure is carried out. Once you have submitted an application a co-ordinator will be in contact if a Dachshund comes into Rescue that we feel may fit with your situation. If you are looking to rehome a Dachshund who you can no longer care for, we are here to help you. For details of your local co-ordinator to talk to about rehoming your Dachshund please visit www.dachshundrescue.org.uk

Dachshund Rescue will be taking a break from rehoming until 5th January 2026. There are many reasons for this the most important being that to move a distressed dachshund into a busy home with visitors and noise would only increase their levels of anxiety and stress.
We will continue to offer an EMERGENCY service to any dachshund in immediate danger or in need of urgent support.
Last year a couple of our volunteers spent all of Boxing Day at an emergency vet clinic with a beautiful little girl who we called Holly (pictured).
Holly had been found in a park abandoned and in severe pain. She was in labour and underwent an emergency caesarean but sadly lost her puppies.
The next day another volunteer fosterer stepped in and looked after Holly.
Soon after she found her forever home after we appealed for help. She’s now living a wonderful life and is part of a loving family 🥰🥰
So we will be quietly supporting dachshund’s throughout the festive season.
Already there have been two very difficult situations requiring urgent assistance and we remain committed to ensuring these little dachshunds get all the necessary help and assistance they need.
We wish all our supporters a peaceful and safe Christmas and we send our thanks to all of you for your continued support💜💜💜💜🎄🎄

Dachshund Rescue UK would like to send out a massive thank you to the Sausage Dog Sanctuary Food and Hotel.
They have offered to support any emergency situations that may arise regarding dachshunds in need or difficult circumstances with accommodation and a safe environment over the Christmas season 🎄
This is such a wonderful gesture and it helps so much knowing there is somewhere our dachshunds can be placed and looked after immediately.
Here they will also be assessed and this will be really important when we are able to start rehoming after the Christmas season is over and homes return to being in a better position to rehome and adopt.
Thank you so much xx 💜💜

🌳🌳🌳🌳 Life at The Elms 🌳🌳🌳🌳

Whilst the Dachshund Rescue section of our operations will be taking a short break from rehoming over the Christmas period we will still be extremely busy.
Please note that we will STILL be available for any emergency situations and act to safeguard any dachshund in danger or in a very vulnerable environment.
Our rehabilitation services will continue throughout the festive season and maintain treatment for any dogs who need any medical help and assistance.
Our kennels will remain open and we will continue to provide boarding and day care throughout the whole of Christmas and New Year. Staff will be working every day and celebrating with the dogs in their care.
We will also continue to provide a safe, and loving environment for any dachshund dachshunds requiring an emergency placement.
Thanks for all the support and hard work of The Elms team who have been amazing throughout the year.
Thanks also to all our clients who have supported us too and we look forward to working with you all next year.
Best wishes to everyone throughout this busy time of year and we look forward to sharing our stories with you all in 2026 💜💜💜💜💜

🐾 Furry Friday Feature: Meet Ozzy The Tiger Who Beat the Odds 🐾

Say hello to Ozzy, a striking 6-year-old black and tan brindle (tiger-striped) smooth haired miniature dachshund, whose personality is as bold as his beautiful coat.

Ozzy has already proven he’s a little warrior after undergoing IVDD grade 3 surgery in May, he made a remarkable recovery, and by June his vet officially signed him off as 100% fit. Now he’s back to doing what he loves most running, playing, and curling up under a blanket for a snooze with his humans.

This clever boy knows some classics: sit, wait, paw, down, and he’ll happily show off for treats!

He’s house trained, polite in the home, and loves using his daily kibble allowance to play little training games.

💛 What Ozzy Needs:
Ozzy is looking for a calm, stable home with someone who truly understands dachshunds and is happy to work through his occasional anxieties with patience and consistency.
He’s currently living with his brother but would much prefer to be the only dog so he can soak up all the love and attention for himself.

🐾 His Perfect Match:
Someone home most of the time Ozzy loves company and sleeping nearby.
A rural or semi-rural home with a secure garden for playtime and sniffing adventures.
No young children or visiting little ones he likes peace and predictability.
No other pets just you and him.

Ozzy’s a loving, funny, loyal little character who will make the most wonderful companion for someone who lives for their dog.

After everything he’s overcome, he deserves a forever home as special as he is.

📩 If you can offer Ozzy the life he deserves, please email

[email protected]

Let’s find this tiger the home he deserves. 🐾

🌳🌳🌳🌳 Life at The Elms 🌳🌳🌳🌳

Huge shout out today and massive thank you to our kennels manager Courtney.
Last week we had an emergency and had to remove a dachshund from a very difficult situation with immediate effect.
The dachshund was in Cornwall and plans were made to bring the dachshund to The Elms Kennels and a place of safety.
We had to arrange a half way meeting point as the dog was in Cornwall 🙈🙈🙈
A 6 hour round trip would be necessary!!!!
We needed someone to sit with the dog throughout the journey as she was petrified of travelling in cars and her anxiety levels were already through the roof.
Courtney without hesitation stepped up. She and the driver left The Elms at 1.30pm and didn’t get back until 9pm 😟
Considering Courtney had started work at 7am this was an incredible act of selflessness and dedication. She even stayed to make sure the dachshund was safe and settled in the kennels.
Logan should also be thanked for jumping in to cover the kennels and to look after the dogs in residence for the afternoon and his support needs recognising too 💜
Young people get so much criticism these days so it’s truly refreshing to have two amazing young people as part of our team. We appreciate your support and cannot thank you enough for your continued loyalty 💜💜💜💜
Thank you from Dachshund Rescue xx
