BSGU10s vs Inkberrow, Fortress Braces
Due to injuries , we only had six players available for selection today. Connie, Emma, Blayke, Ruby, Melissa and Eleanor. Unfortunately none of them showed up. The players that did show today were Romario, Bebeto, Cafu, Dunga, Aldair and Ronaldo. It was just like watching Brazil 🇧🇷.
It was another magnificent performance today. At times the girls would just pass 4 or 5 times between 2 or 3 players in a triangle before playing a longer ball down field but almost always to feet. There was another comment from the referee at the end of the game about what a lovely team they are. I think there was a goal today where each player touched the ball before we put it in the back of the net and some amazing defence splitting final balls.
Our player of the match today was Melissa. Melissa is the heartbeat of the team and in my opinion plays above her age. She has a maturity about her on the ball, an understanding that going backwards, sideways and short benefits the move, even if not immediately. I think she probably had a hand in all eleven goals today. She oozes class and has a phenomenal work ethic, a true BSG superstar 🦸♀️
5 goals from an on fire Blayke 🔥 today, another long ranger from Eleanor 🚀, a hatty from Ruby 🎩🪄3️⃣ and a top performance from latest signing Emma 💷 who's living up to her big money transfer fee.
But..... I think everyone's favourite moment of the match came in the final minute. Blayke picked the ball up on the left wing, looked up and slotted a perfectly weighted through ball to the on running Connie Thompson. Connie immediately brings the ball under her spell, drops a shoulder and throws the defender before moving the ball out of her feet and onto her favoured right side. The crowd fell silent, the tension palpable, everyone wondering if the player holding the all-time appearance record could avenge last week's crucial penalty miss to claim the first goal of her career. Of course she could! A calm, strong sidefoot into the into the bottom corner after giving the keeper the eyes - GOOOAAAALLLLLLL! It was bedlam in the hedge end as the crowd nearly took the roof off before erupting into song "🎶🎵 Theres only one Connie Thompson 🎶🎵 one Connie Thooommmppppsssoooon!" 🎶🎵
Great game!
