Let’s unite education workers, families and the communities where we live and work to fight for the future our children and young people deserve! 💪

Our ballot has been ‘paused’, but the campaign is far from over! We need to think big to ‘save education’, so do comment with thoughts and ideas to win for education workers and the whole of education! ✊🏼💪

🗳️As we face a cost-of-living crisis and a funding crisis in education, UNISON and UNITE are balloting local government workers, including school support staff. The NEU plans to ballot teachers and support staff in October.
😞 But, unfortunately some parts of the union leaderships are more focused on who should represent support staff, rather than how we can fight against redundancines, term-time only pay and funding cuts together.

✊🏼 All our struggles will be best served through collaboration and taking action together.

😡 But at a time when we need this maximum unity to defeat pay cuts and redundancies, the TUC has threatened sanctions against the NEU, following complaints from other support staff unions. Talks are taking place between the unions this week.

✊🏼 It was great to offer solidarity to Institute of Cancer Research strikers who visited Bristol yesterday.

💪 Workers are fighting for pay restoration- the same demand that will be on our ballot launching in October. Entering their 9th week of strikes, they have served indefinite action - this means strikes end only when an acceptable offer is made.

✊🏼A great feeling of solidarity at the Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival this weekend!
🤔 A celebration, as well as a time to remember some of the earliest battles to form trade unions, which we can remember for their determination and willingness to fight for conditions we take for granted today.
💪 A remembering of past struggles and wins, as well as a feeling of hope and unity for the future.
✊🏼 Solidarity to all NEU branches, other unions and trades union councils for upcoming battles to win the pay, conditions and world free from war and discrimination that we all need and deserve!

✊🏼 Solidarity to Bristol NEU members at Grace Gardens School today.
❓Why should skilled education workers that work long hours in an independent special school get paid 10-20% less compared to counterparts in mainstream?
🪧Staff experience burn out and exhaustion after long days in physically and emotionally demanding roles and so are asking for a fair sick pay policy that safeguards the wellbeing of staff and students.
💪 Trade union recognition would allow staff a voice to be able to negotiate fair pay, workload and safety. Discussions have stalled after a year, and so 52 out of 66 staff have taken the difficult decision to strike.

🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Bristol Pride! 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

🪧 Bristol NEU, along with BaNES NEU, North Somerset NEU, NEU South Glos and other education workers from across the South West handed out flags, placards and fans before joining the march.

🎉 We danced and celebrated, as well as raised the need for equality in education- for staff, for students and for the curriculum.

✊🏼 We need to fight for a world and education system with no discrimination; that welcomes diversity, allows for name changes and pronoun choice in education as well as that allows people to live their lives as who they are. End homophobia and transphobia! Trans rights are human rights!

🪧 Picket lines continue across some EACT today, fighting to reclaim money taken from support staff wages.
😡 With the EACT ‘CEO’ on £240k, it’s disgusting that the lowest-paid members of staff have their cost-of-living increase kept out of pay packets for 5 months each year.
✊🏼 Solidarity with all support staff striking, as well as teachers refusing to cross picket lines. Families, the community and other education staff all back your fight.

✊🏼💪 11 schools with picket lines across Bristol, Cabot Learning Federation and South Gloucestershire NEU branches this week.
🪧 Striking is a last resort, and all members would prefer to be in work rather than giving up a day’s pay. But when managements haven’t been willing to resolve issues- what else can we do?
😡 Across these schools, we’ve had stolen backpay from support staff; unsafe buildings for students and staff; behaviour policies that prevent students and staff from being safe and learning; lack of union recognition; redundancies as well as spiralling workloads and pressure leading to staff leaving jobs they love.
✊🏼 Let’s unite staff, students and communities, as if our working conditions, are the children’s learning conditions- we need to build an education system that supports us all.
