📢 CALL FOR PAPERS
Repost from

"For JAWS 11.1, we’re seeking submissions on bodies in process, whether that means material bodies doing the work of processing – absorption, digestion, excretion – or bodies of work between starting and finishing, and everything in between. We welcome practice-based research, visual essays, book reviews and interviews by emergent practitioners and researchers, and we're particularly interested to receive academic submissions that respond to the theme (up to 6000 words). For academic submissions please submit a 300-word abstract by March 31 2025. Please submit any completed submissions by 25 April 2025.

x JAWS"

What to expect?

In this episode, we speak to artists John Wood and Paul Harrison about making sculpture with language, developing systems for making art with words, and the power of playing with expectations.

A little information about Wood and Harrison....

John Wood and Paul Harrison make works that form a kind of reference manual for how to do, make, build, or draw things that you probably never want to do, make, build, or draw. They do it for you. Even though you didn’t ask them to. This attempt to compile an encyclopaedia of the everyday, started in 1993 after they met at art college.

Exciting Call Out from -

"Best Imagined Sound

For this category we've partnered with to celebrate submissions that describe or depict sounds. These could be poetic, pictorial, or conceptual and should encourage an engagement with the imagination.

In the words of category judge Will René .language, what we're looking for is a "result of an imaginative approach to language and what it can achieve or convey. Whereas a lot of the other categories involve listening to things in the world externally, the Best Imagined Sound category involves an introspective, internal ear.

Participants have to listen to their own thoughts and communicate them to others. It's almost like an exercise in empathy."
