🌿 Welcome to the board, Richard 🌿

We are delighted to welcome Richard to our board of trustees. Richard has had a varied career as a teacher, police officer and civil servant, including serving on the chief officer team at Thames Valley Police, where he led on areas such as criminal justice, neighbourhood policing and volunteer programmes.

At the College of Policing, Richard led the development of evidence‑based standards and guidance for uniformed policing professionals, with a focus on neighbourhood policing and volunteers in policing.

Richard brings a strong belief in the power of restorative justice, having seen first‑hand how it can support victims, repair harm, and help those responsible understand the impact of their actions.

Alongside his professional experience, Richard is actively involved in his local community, volunteering by driving a community minibus and supporting the development of a local nature reserve. We are very pleased to have him join us.

Following recent changes around non‑crime hate incidents, we want to reassure our communities that support is still here.

Our support remains the same.

As part of the Bristol Hate Crime & Discrimination Service, Resolve West continues to support anyone experiencing conflict or harm they feel is motivated by hate towards protected characteristics.

You do not need evidence or police involvement to access our support – we are here to listen, support, and help people move forward safely and constructively.

We will always support people experiencing conflict, anti‑social behaviour, bullying, or hate incidents in our communities.

If you’ve been affected by crime in the past five years - whether you reported it or not - there’s now more time to share your experience.

Your views help the Victims’ Commissioner understand what’s working, where people are being let down, and what needs to change to better support victims.

The deadline for the 2026 Victims’ Survey has now been extended to 20 May 2026.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, led by Mental Health Foundation, we’re encouraged to take action - for ourselves, for someone else and for all of us.

At Resolve West, we see every day how conflict, isolation, anti‑social behaviour, bullying, and hate incidents can impact people’s wellbeing. Through mediation, restorative approaches and community‑based support, we help create safer spaces, strengthen relationships and support people to move forward with understanding and care.

Whether it’s listening, helping to de‑escalate conflict, or supporting positive communication, small actions can make a meaningful difference.

It was a pleasure to deliver recent training with Learning Partnership West (LPW), focusing on understanding conflict, preventing escalation, and developing advanced listening and communication skills.

We’re really pleased to see such positive feedback from participants - creating space for shared learning, reflection, and open discussion is at the heart of what we do.
