As we come to the close of the year, we’re pausing to reflect with gratitude.
This year, together with our partners, supporters, and communities, we’ve reached thousands of lives — providing appropriate wheelchairs, strengthening wheelchair services, and equipping parents and caregivers with the skills to better support children with disabilities.
None of this happens in isolation. Every training delivered, every wheelchair fitted, and every family supported is made possible through collaboration, trust, and shared commitment to dignity and inclusion.
As we celebrate this festive season, we want to say thank you — to everyone who has walked alongside us, believed in our work, and helped turn impact into action.
From all of us at Motivation Africa, we wish you a joyful and peaceful Christmas.
If you’d like to be part of the impact in the year ahead, consider supporting our work and helping more people access the right assistive technology and services.

Over the past few weeks, our teams and partners across Kenya have been deeply engaged in a series of trainings designed to strengthen wheelchair service delivery and equip caregivers with the knowledge needed to support children with disabilities.

From Parent & Caregiver Training (PCT) under the Nourish & Flourish Project, to the WSTP Intermediate Course, and finally the Training of Trainers (ToT), one message keeps coming through: Skills change confidence, confidence changes service and service changes lives.

Participants shared powerful reflections:
• “Basic and Intermediate training have made me a great clinician — a shift from clinical to technical. I now have the confidence to assist a wheelchair user perfectly.”
• “This ToT has reminded me that I am responsible for making an impact in my organisation and with every user I support.”
Their words reflect that a trained clinician and a trained technician mean the right service, delivered at the right time, to the people who need it most. These trainings are building blocks for stronger systems, empowered providers, and better outcomes for wheelchair users across Kenya.

Today, we join the world in marking International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
At Motivation Charitable Trust, we believe every person deserves the dignity of mobility, the freedom to participate, and the chance to thrive in their own community.

When environments become inclusive, people don’t “overcome” — barriers simply fall.

💚 Here’s to a world where support is accessible, rights are protected, and inclusion is the norm.

“Healthy ageing is not just about adding years to life, it’s about adding strength, balance, and independence to those years.” — Rebecca Mwangangi, Physiotherapist

Today, on hashtag , we celebrate the professionals who make this possible.

Physiotherapists don’t just treat injuries, they restore confidence, prevent complications, and empower independence. Their work is central to healthy ageing and to the inclusion of people with disabilities.

At Motivation, we’ve seen this firsthand. That’s why we partnered with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in Kenya to embed wheelchair service provision into physiotherapy and occupational therapy curricula. ♿

Now, future health professionals graduate with the skills to assess, prescribe, and follow up on wheelchair provision — turning clinical knowledge into real independence for people who need mobility support.

To all physiotherapists, thank you for the strength, hope, and movement you bring into people’s lives. ⭐

Take a moment today to appreciate a physiotherapist you know or simply commit to moving a little more. Your steps, however small, matter.

September is Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month

Every year, thousands of people experience life-changing injuries that reshape their daily lives. But with the right support, technology, and community, many are not only adapting—but thriving.

This year’s theme, “Empowering Independence Through Innovation and Inclusion,” reminds us that true independence comes when accessibility, creativity, and equality work hand in hand—opening opportunities across every part of life.

This month, we’re creating space for powerful voices: people who survived spinal cord injuries and are now redefining what it means to live fully on wheels.

Have you, or someone close to you, experienced a spinal cord injury? We’d love to hear your story. Your experience could inspire, educate, and create understanding for many more.

Share your journey in the comments or reach out ([email protected]) if you’d like to be featured.

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” – Aesop
On World Humanitarian Day, we remember and thank the extraordinary people who dedicate their lives to helping others in times of crisis. But we also reflect on how disabled people are too often excluded from disaster planning and humanitarian response — making survival and recovery even harder.
The truth is, while not all of us can be on the frontline with organisations like the Red Cross or Médecins Sans Frontières, we can all take action. Sometimes in small but powerful ways — like “green carding” your MP to raise issues that matter to you.
Read Sara Gwynn's (our Head of Policy and Advocacy) blog on why taking even one small step really matters: https://motivation.org.uk/2025/08/19/world-humanitarian-day/

Today is World Humanitarian Day
It’s a day to celebrate the courage of humanitarian workers and to stand alongside communities affected by crises.
For us at Motivation, it’s also a powerful reminder: in emergencies, disabled people must not be left behind. Too often, they face even more barriers to accessing necessities, emergency support and places of safety.
This year’s theme – Strengthening Global Solidarity and Empowering Local Communities – resonates with our mission. Real change happens when disabled people are at the centre of humanitarian action, with their rights, voices and leadership recognised.
That’s why we work with disabled people and partners worldwide to build:
Awareness of disability rights
Access to appropriate wheelchairs and services
Lasting change that is embedded in local communities
Today, we celebrate and thank humanitarian workers, and the contribution of disabled people and activists everywhere who are building safer, inclusive and resilient communities.

Because true solidarity means leaving no one behind. Follow us for ways to take action.

Today we send our warmest wishes to all our staff, partners and supporters celebrating Eid al-Adha.

Today on World Assistive Technology Day, we’re thrilled to reveal… Skye!

Skye is our brand-new, low-cost, entry-level FrameRunner, joining the Motivation product range later this year. It’s designed to unlock the joy of movement for more people, in more places — from elite athletes to families on the move.

In line with the theme , Skye is all about creating everyday moments of freedom, sport and adventure for people who need it. Scroll through our carousel to find out more and why we named this product Skye!

Also breaking new overnight- FrameRunning has officially been included in the LA 2028 Paralympic Games! Just one classification and one event (100m, men’s and women’s) — but this is huge. It means National Paralympic Committees now need to recognise and support FrameRunning as a Paralympic sport. Incredible news for athletes and the whole FrameRunning community. So well deserved!

Across my career, I’ve had the privilege of working for and leading a range of brilliant and impactful organisations. A constant across these roles is a commitment to social justice for disabled people.

Whilst disabled people everywhere face disproportionate barriers to inclusion – with their rights, needs and choices often overlooked – the challenges can be even more acute for the 80% of disabled people who live in less-resourced settings.

And now cuts to international aid and increasing political hostility to disability threaten to turn back the clock on progress made and cut off the contributions disabled people make to our societies.

That’s why Motivation has launched the Now More Than Ever campaign to galvanise action in support of disabled people and disability-inclusion organisations.
