The Project has some 20 acres of privately owned native broadleaf woodland in Tickenham, North Somerset (BS21 6RT), on the south facing slopes leading up to the National Trust’s Iron Age Cadbury Camp and Avon Wildlife Trust’s Tickenham Ridge reserve. Quite often bathed in sunshine, the woodland offers the most glorious views across the moors to the Mendips and beyond. Whilst this is great for a le
isurely stroll and exercising the dog, there is so much more space, potential and opportunity for getting out and about in the woodland to enhances our lives as well as improving our health. In essence the woodland project promotes the following objectives with a community-centered approach;
• Activities for education and training
• Ecotherapy opportunities to improve mental and physical health and wellbeing
• Promotion of low impact living
• Maintaining an environmentally sustainable woodland
• Optimise potential for wildlife
• Offering a place for recreation and contemplation
To deliver and achieve these goals, the Project has partnered with;
• Urban Pursuit, an alternative education provider working with schools and academies helping vulnerable young people and those at risk of exclusion from school to get back on track through highly engaging and motivating activities and experiences that are focused on personal and social development; and
• Survival School Bristol is dedicated to teaching bushcraft, survival, and wilderness living skills whilst learning to live with nature, respect the environment and ultimately have an enjoyable time. Survival School Bristol promotes education on the countryside code as well as environmental management practices and conservation. The location of the Iron Age hill fort to the rear of the woodland provides the perfect backdrop for these courses, which include primitive crafts
