🎺 Band Rehearsal 🎺

Another great rehearsal tonight, working on some new music alongside an old classic — Eric Ball’s Resurgam.

Written in 1950 for the National Brass Band Championships, Resurgam — meaning “I shall rise again” — was inspired by the Christian hope of resurrection. It has since become one of the best-known and most enduring works in the brass band repertoire, with its powerful message of faith, death and resurrection.

Our Bible thought tonight connected beautifully with that theme, reminding us how easy it can be to believe what we read on social media. With AI making it increasingly difficult to know what is genuine, we were challenged to consider where we place our trust.

📖 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5–6

Amongst all the noise and uncertainty, God’s Word remains a reliable foundation for our faith and for life.

A beautiful evening in rehearsal as the band explored some inspiring new music recently published. 🎶

One standout was Geoffrey Nobes’ latest work, Prelude on ‘Deep Harmony’, written for the Blendworth Band of Hampshire.

Deep Harmony remains one of the most beautiful and enduring hymn tunes ever written. It has been paired with many hymn texts over the years, but in composing this prelude, Geoffrey was especially inspired by these powerful words from Isaac Watts:

“Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.”

A stunning melody paired with a timeless reminder of Christ’s incredible love. We look forward to sharing this music with you in worship soon. 🎺

What a fantastic evening we shared last night! 🎶

Although it was certainly a warm one in the rehearsal room, the atmosphere was even warmer as we enjoyed a wonderful evening of music and fellowship.

We were privileged to welcome JonathanJonathan Evans, who led the band throughout the rehearsal with great skill, encouragement and inspiration. It was a real blessing to learn from his experience and musical leadership.

It was also lovely to welcome a number of visitors who joined us, both to play alongside the band and to listen. Thank you to everyone who came and contributed to such a special evening.

As we continue our preparations for our 140th Anniversary celebrations, we thank God for His faithfulness over the years and for opportunities like this to share in music, friendship and worship together.

The band is continuing to prepare for our 140th Anniversary Celebrations, with several special events coming up as we mark this momentous milestone together. 🎶
On Thursday 28th May, we are delighted to welcome International Staff Bandmaster Jonathan Evans. Jonathan brings a wealth of experience, having conducted bands across the UK, Europe, and America. This promises to be a very special evening and one not to be missed!
