We are sorry to share that after more than 23 years of providing community-based music therapy to over 2,500 adults with mental health needs, Soundwell Music Therapy will be closing at the end of June 2026.
This decision has been made with deep regret. Despite our sustained efforts over many years to secure the funding needed to continue, we have faced a long-term and unsustainable lack of financial support. After exploring every viable option, our Board of Trustees has concluded that we can no longer continue to operate our groups and services.
For more than two decades, Soundwell has offered creative, supportive spaces for adults living with mental health challenges – places where music has helped individuals rebuild confidence, restore hope, and support their wellbeing and recovery. We have also been proud to provide music-based support for unpaid carers, helping them look after their own emotional health.
We are immensely grateful to everyone who has been part of our community – our participants, carers, partners, funders, and supporters.
“Heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported Soundwell since its inception. The loss of the UK’s only bespoke music therapy mental health charity is a major blow to people with severe, enduring needs in Bristol and Bath. Regretfully, Trustees see no option but closure unless urgent funding emerges. We will support clients in finding alternatives and prepare staff for redundancy, while honouring 23 years of vital work.” Catherine Warner, Chair of Trustees
