Over 1 million young people in the UK today are not in education, employment or training.

This is the highest this number has been in over 10 years, whilst other European countries shoot ahead in their improvements in youth employment.

This report, published by the UK government, highlights the unique challenges younger generations are facing, and the lack of support, and resources being given to them. It moves beyond just the statistics into structural barriers many young people face, such as access to skills, health support, work experience, and employment opportunities.

These findings highlight the need for stronger collaboration between employers, educators, policymakers, and communities to create clearer and more supportive pathways into work for the next generation.

Within our education systems, there are lots of opportunities to help drive real change. Through inspiring young people, ensuring they feel hopeful and excited about their futures, guiding them to realise their strengths, and working alongside careers services to create better outcomes.

Last week, we ran our Introduction to Inclusive Coaching at the University of Bristol with some post graduate researchers as part of the Bristol Industrial Skills Programme💫

Coaching skills aren't just for professional coaches. The ability to listen actively, ask good questions, build trust, and support others to think through challenges can be valuable in research, leadership, and future careers.

It was great to explore these skills with such an engaged group, and discuss how coaching can support more effective conversations, stronger relationships, and better personal development.

If you think coaching skills could benefit your team, get in touch with us by sending a DM, or through our website, linked in our bio🚀

Does the ‘happiness gap’ really exist? 💭

Recently, The Sutton Trust released a report on the correlation between class and happiness levels.

The research showed:

➡️people from working class backgrounds are a third more likely to experience low wellbeing than those from professional backgrounds.

➡️issues like the housing crisis, and cost-of-living crisis are affecting the happiness levels of those from less privileged backgrounds – particularly young people.

➡️self-perceptions of social mobility also matter to wellbeing - those who thought themselves upwardly mobile had the highest levels of wellbeing, and those who saw themselves as downwardly mobile had the lowest.

This clearly shows how allowing people opportunities and removing barriers that can prevent those from disadvantaged backgrounds from moving upward, can greatly increase happiness levels.

🚨 Barriers to top schools are still stacked against disadvantaged young people.

The Sutton Trust is calling on schools to review admissions systems after new research found wealthier pupils are 50% more likely to access high performing state schools than those on Free School Meals—even within the same catchment areas.

Their new Fair School Admissions Hub highlights how factors like complex policies, lack of awareness, and hidden costs (uniform, transport, activities) are contributing to inequality. It also shows that schools can take practical steps like prioritising disadvantaged pupils, to improve access and inclusion.

For us at Inclusive Futures CIC, this reinforces what we see every day: barriers to opportunity aren’t just about ability, they’re built into systems. Supporting young people means not only building confidence and skills, but also challenging the structures that limit access to their futures.

Why coach someone towards the answer rather than just telling them?💫

As the saying goes - give a man a fish, he eats for a day, teach him to fish, he eats for a lifetime!

In our recent podcast, Jess and Rose discuss how coaching may take time, but that time is given back with lots of benefits, including:

➡️improved motivation, happiness and productivity in employees
➡️less relying on management for solutions to problems
➡️increased efficiency

Recently, as part of their 10 Year Health Plan for England, the UK Government have announced a package of measures to break down some of the barriers into medical careers for people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

These new measures include:
➡️2,000 new nursing apprenticeships concentrated in areas that need it most
➡️A further 2,000 young people from deprived areas to be supported when applying to medical courses
➡️Pledge to increase the number of students receiving free school meals into medical school by 50% in the next decade.

These steps are crucial in improving social mobility rates in the UK and allowing young people to realise a future they want, regardless of their background.

Focus on the outcome - let people find their own way to get there 💫

Being an inclusive leader can show up in small habits - not just organisational frameworks.

In our recent podcast, Jess and Rose discuss how leaders can take a more inclusive approach, including putting focus on the outcome of a project, rather than the process.

Looking to become a coach - or utilise a coach within your organisation but not sure how accreditation like CPD or ICF fits in?

Coaching is an unregulated industry. That’s both its strength and its risk.

On one the positive side, it allows for innovation, diversity of approaches, and accessibility. On the other, it means anyone can call themselves a coach regardless of training, ethics, or competence.

This is where accreditation comes in.

Choosing a coach who has been accredited could lead to the following benefits:
➡️Increased ROI
➡️Continual professional development
➡️Reduced risks due to adhering to a set framework
➡️More structured coaching, with measurable effects
