Lewes Town Council was delighted to welcome guests to a special reception in the foyer of Lewes Town Hall this week, celebrating and thanking the many people who help make Patina's much-loved Moving On Parade such a success year after year.

The event brought together staff, artists, school representatives, trustees, volunteers and supporters, recognising the extraordinary community effort that goes into creating this unique experience for local children as they make the transition from primary to secondary school.

The Mayor Councillor Adrian Ross said: “Patina is one of the best things that happens in Lewes. The Moving On Parade creates memories that stay with children and their families for years. My own children took part in their Moving On Parades and absolutely loved the experience. It’s a wonderful celebration of creativity, community and this important stage in young people’s lives.”

Guests also had the opportunity to view Patina’s inspiring Book of Legends, written and illustrated by the children who took part in this year’s Moving On project. The book explores who the children consider to be the legends in their own lives at this important stage of growing up.

Patina is a valued recipient of a Lewes Town Council grant, which helps enable the organisation to deliver the Moving On Parade and provide this unique creative opportunity for young people across the town.

The Book of Legends has been on display at Lewes Town Hall this week and will next be exhibited at the Old Hamsey Church Open Day on Sunday 12 July, from 2pm to 5pm. It will then be on display at the Lewes Climate Hub, giving more people the opportunity to discover this remarkable collection of stories and illustrations created by local children.

Lewes Town Council is proud to support initiatives that bring our community together and celebrate the creativity, imagination and voices of young people. Thank you to everyone who contributes to making Patina’s Moving On Parade such a special part of life in Lewes – you are all absolute legends.
