[2023 INTO Giving Internship]

Hi, this is Tsukine, a 2023 summer INTO Giving intern. Today, I’m going to introduce the Children’s Education Foundation (CEF) - Vietnam, one of the organisations INTO Giving supports with its grant.

< Children’s Education Foundation - Vietnam >
CEF is a non-profit organisation supporting projects in Vietnam to break the poverty cycle by empowering girls through education. Below is some of the stories of the girls currently being supported (names have been changed to protect the girl’s anonymity).

1. Nga
Because her family has never been able to afford her living and education costs in high school, every holiday, she had a part-time job and saved her earnings - Along with CEF’s scholarship for paying all her costs at school.

2. Thanh
She has dreamed of going to university to study English or Chinese and getting a good job to help her father in the future, but he had to refuse to let her go because he couldn’t afford it. Now she can.

3. Hanh
She is aware that education is very important for her future if she wants to find a good job and have a better life, so she strives for that every day.

INTO Giving is supporting Children’s Education Foundation - Vietnam with donations totalling Ā£15,000 between 2020 and today to cover the girls’ school fees, stationery and other classroom materials, costs of books and compulsory uniforms, shoes (including sports shoes) and numerous other requisite school costs.

Hi, it’s Tsukine, an INTO Giving intern in Brighton, and sadly this is my final week as an intern... time flies! In today’s post, I’d like to share some of the things that I did as an INTO Giving intern within a word limit.

1. Social Media Management: Creating content using Canva, managing posts with an app, and increasing engagement through tagging, mentioning, and hashtags.

2. Brand Awareness: Introducing projects and organisations which INTO Giving supports on social media and creating INTO Giving posters for INTO students.

3. Student Engagement: Coming up with student engagement ideas as a former INTO student and providing viewpoints as an INTO student.

4. Website Improvement: Updating INTO Giving website.

5. MS Office apps & Communications: Using MS Office effectively. Communicating with the team, people in the office and other interns in London and San Francisco for collaboration.

6. Attending Meetings: Attending meetings on merchandising, campaigns as a part of the team.

In addition, I could make the most of my stay at Brighton as well, including volunteering at local Oxfam on weekends, visiting various sights nearby, and enjoying the overall experience as an international student.

I would like to thank the INTO Giving team, INTO staff in the Brighton office, INTO UEA staff who have supported me and last but not least Andrew Colin, an INTO University Partnerships' Founder, who made this internship accessible for students of any financial circumstances. I appreciate this amazing opportunity so much.
Thank you for reading!

It is a unique opportunity to develop employability for INTO students/graduates offered by INTO Giving, the philanthropic branch of INTO University Partnerships. To help ensure students from a variety of financial backgrounds feel encouraged to apply, INTO Giving will assist with accommodation, travel costs and daily subsistence. The internship programme costs are paid with financial support from INTO University Partnerships' Founder, Andrew Colin. No donations from our supporters are used to finance this programme.

1. Supporting Education for Syrian refugee children in Zahle, Lebanon
45% of the 270 students are girls. Many have never been educated or received only informal schooling.

2. Working with local partner
Working with local partner NGO, Triumphant Mercy, families are encouraged to keep their daughters in school as they grow older.

3. Multidimensional support
Children follow a Syrian and Lebanese child-friendly curriculum in their own dialect and receive vocational training and trauma care.

[2023 INTO Giving Internship]
Hi, this is Tsukine, a 2023 summer INTO Giving intern. Today, I’m going to introduce YUM (Yayasan Usaha Mulia), one of the organisations INTO Giving supports with its grant.

< YUM >
YUM (Yayasan Usaha Mulia) is a non-profit organisation working to improve the quality of life of people in Indonesia for over 45 years.

1. Tutoring and Remedial Programme
Partnering with 4 schools and 11 teachers, the programme offers free small group after-school lessons for schoolchildren who have difficulty in reading and writing.

2. Literacy in Cipanas, West Java
It is not rare to find Year 4 or above students who have difficulty in reading and writing because classes are oversized and there’s little parental support as most parents had only primary education.

3. Serving the community
The tutoring programme has been so well-known by the community that some schools continue to run it during the school holidays.

INTO Giving is supporting YUM with donations totalling £17,500 between 2020 and today, helping to provide 170 schoolchildren aged 7 to 13, of which more than half of them are girls, with afterschool tutoring and remedial lessons.

< Girl Power ProjectĀ® >
Just Like My Child (JLMC) is a non-profit organisation. INTO Giving specifically supports their educational project called ā€˜Girl Power Project®’

[2023 INTO Giving Internship] Hi, it’s Tsukine, an INTO Giving intern in Brighton. Experiencing different cities is a big part of studying abroad as an international student and it’s always exciting!! Today, I’m going to share Gurwinder’s experience in San Francisco! Gurwinder is an intern at Room to Read, a global education non-profit and one of INTO Giving strategic partners.

Favorite thing about San Francisco: The variety of food options that this city has on offer has been one of my favorite things so far. Not to forget to mention the anciently designed tall buildings as well.

Favorite activity: It’s hard to say. I have been enjoying everything that I have been doing here in SF for the last two weeks. Eating Indian food, working with Room to Read, walking along the bay, sitting at the Union square writing some poetry, all these have been wonderful experiences.

Favorite place: I think my favorite place would be my Room to Read Office where I get to contribute towards this great mission of promoting literacy. Apart from that Union Square and Chat Corner have also been my go-to places.

[INTO Giving Internships] INTO Giving internships have been started! Today’s post is about Gurwinder, a Room to Read intern in San Francisco, US. Room to Read is a global education non-profit and one of our strategic partners.

šŸ”“ Name: Gurwinder (he/him)

šŸ”“ INTO centre: INTO Oregon State University

šŸ”“ INTO course: undergrad year one student

šŸ”“ Reasons why he wanted to take part in this internship: The main reason that I wanted to take part in this internship was to be a part of the greater good. When I came to know that Room to Read works for educating children and supports girl’s education, I felt both inspired and encouraged to join this initiative. Having the support from INTO giving boosted my interest in this internship.

šŸ”“ What he likes about SF: The main thing that I like about SF is the diverse population. I come across people from different cultures, backgrounds, nationalities, religions, communities, all walking in the streets surrounded by humongous tall buildings.

It is a unique opportunity to develop employability for INTO students/graduates offered by INTO Giving, the philanthropic branch of INTO University Partnerships. In the summer of 2023, two INTO student internships will be hosted by INTO Giving’s partner, Room to Read, in San Francisco and London, with a third hosted by INTO Giving itself in Brighton UK.
