Woodingdean NBHW

Woodingdean NBHW Woodingdean NBHW was started in 2014 - our aim is to roll out the programme to the whole community to Crime cannot flourish in a community that cares.

Neighbourhood Watch began life in the UK over 30 years ago in response to rising crime, but today, as times change, covers all aspects of keeping safe. The main aims of Neighbourhood Watch are to prevent crimes, reduce the fear of crime and improve community safety. This includes promoting good citizenship and greater public awareness through Neighbourhood Watch groups, increasing public participa

tion in the prevention and detection of crime, reducing the fear of crime, improving Police / community liaison and increasing public / community safety. The modern computer-based Neighbourhood Watch is about making sure that no one has to feel afraid, vulnerable or isolated in the place where they live. It’s about people looking out for each other, crossing barriers of age, race, class and background to create strong cohesive communities that benefit everyone, without prejudice or discrimination. Neighbourhood Watch acts as the eyes and ears of the community. As a result it has been shown that Neighbourhood Watch areas are far less likely to be targeted by criminals. We are a not-for-profit organisation, non-party in politics, and operate an equal opportunities and non-discriminatory policy. Anybody can join, regardless of their background.

You may be aware that there has been sadly more crimes and burglaries of recent. We have reached out and contacted the house holds we are aware of. We are always sorry for those who are affected by this. Please be aware of the rear of your houses and make sure you are locked and secure. Also if you have a break in through glass don’t clear it up until the forensic team have attended. The glass particles are a way of identifying or linking a burglar to a property along with any blood DNA. Please do get a crime number as this helps us when we are working with the policing teams…

We are investigating concerning reports of fraudulent parking penalty notices being distributed in Woodingdean.

Two incidents have been identified after properties in Crescent Drive North were sent parking penalty letters, charging £150 for parking on 'Land at Devonshire Place'.

In both instances, the 'One Car Parks' fines were found to be fraudulent.

Think you've also been targeted fraudulently by 'One Car Parks'? Contact police with any information online, or by calling 101 quoting reference 1189 of 17/02.

Had a call about 9:30 Friday the 14th saying that a guy has knocked on an elderly ladies house stating she had a hole in her roof. The man had a set off ladders leaning on the side of her house. Members of NBHW have been around to make sure the lady is ok she is. The roofer left quickly after saying her brother in law was on his way round and she will ask him to check it out. Please let any elderly family of friends know.

The Police will also be attending this event with a event support vehicle outside the community centre. So that local residents can have a one to one chat with the police direct about any concerns or advise needed. This invite is for everyone in our community and local surrounding areas. Its all on the attached poster but we will be covering air tags giving an over view on the dark web what it is and what its used for. We have three excellent speakers and of course give you some updates on local crime.........
