Bake a Difference Sussex We’re volunteer bakers making home-baked treats for food banks and community groups across Brighton and Hove.

Volunteers bake as often as they can (weekly, fortnightly, monthly, or ad hoc) and drop the bakes to one of our citywide hubs for distribution.

🍰 Bake a Difference – November Update! 🧁

It’s been a quieter month on our page — but that’s because our brilliant volunteers have been busy bees in the kitchen! 🐝

Throughout November, over 700 bakes went out across Brighton & Hove! 💛 Another amazing effort from our volunteer bakers with the following food banks and community groups supported:
👉Balfour MA Foodbank
👉Brighton Food Bank
👉Hangleton and West Blatchington Food Bank
👉East Brighton Food Co-operative
👉The Whitehawk Foodbank
👉Hollingdean & Fiveways Foodbank
👉Foodbank at the Gathering Place, Hollingbury
👉Brighton Women's Centre
👉Safehaven Men based at St Peter's Brighton

We also baked for an event in aid of National Care Leavers Month — a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and support young people moving into independence. 💜

And to top it all off, our incredible birthday bakers created six beautiful birthday cakes for residents at:
🎂 YMCA DownsLink Group and Cranmead

Huge thanks to everyone who helped make this happen — every bake shared brings warmth, kindness, and connection across our city. 🧡

💡 Who do we support?

One of the brilliant local groups we bake for is Balfour MA Foodbank . 🤝

They’re a volunteer-led initiative based at Knoyle Community Hall, part of the Brighton St John site near Preston Park. Each week, the team provides pre-ordered food parcels and a “lucky dip” of surplus items — helping ensure good food reaches those who need it.

Mutual Aid is all about community, solidarity and looking out for one another — and we’re proud to play a small part by delivering homemade bakes to them each week. 💛

💛 We’ve been a little busy… in the best possible way! 💛

Our ovens (and volunteers!) have been working overtime, which means we’re only just catching up on sharing some amazing news — in October alone, our incredible bakers created over 600 homemade treats! 🍰🧁

These bakes went out to food banks across Brighton & Hove, and wonderful community partners like Brighton Women’s Centre and St Peter’s Brighton Men’s Safe Haven.

To every volunteer baker who mixed, stirred, and sprinkled kindness into every batch — thank you. You’re at the heart of what we do. 💛

As we move into the colder months, these home-baked goodies bring even more warmth, comfort, and care to those who receive them.

We also want to make this page a real hub for sharing and connecting — celebrating your bakes, your stories, and the incredible impact of this community. So keep an eye out for updates, photos, and opportunities to get involved! 💬✨
