📅 Energy bills go up in one week.

From 1 July, the new price cap adds over £200 to the average bill, with the increase driven almost entirely by gas.

Before it kicks in, do two things: read your meter, and contact your energy supplier if you have any concerns.

Watch this film to understand why this is happening and what we're calling for.

🔴 The Winter Fuel Payment backlash and inaction on living costs helped trigger the Labour leadership race.

➡️ Whoever wins cannot make energy bills an afterthought.

🗣️ Households need a leader who will stand up to the price shock profiteers, provide a proper energy debt relief scheme and chart a credible course off the gas price rollercoaster for good. At the heart of this must be a radical Energy Independence Bill.

⚠️As temperatures stay above 20°C through the night, the Met Office is warning that millions of people simply cannot recover from the day's heat before the next one begins.

For households already in debt to their energy supplier, that's not just uncomfortable. It's dangerous. For some households switching on a fan is a bill they can’t afford.

The Climate Change Committee has warned that 92% of homes could overheat in more extreme heat events, and that the poorest neighbourhoods are seven times more likely to be at risk.

We have an energy system that leaves people unable to heat their homes in winter and unable to cool them in summer - and through both seasons, fossil fuel companies post record profits.

That's not a coincidence. It's a policy choice.

🗣️The Iran conflict is driving up gas unit rates by 28% in a single quarter. Meanwhile, the energy companies who pocketed £3 billion in profits from UK operations in just three months aren't giving that back.

The peace deal is welcome, but the bills hitting doormats soon reflect a harder truth: as long as UK households depend on gas, every foreign conflict becomes an energy price crisis. This one won't be the last.

📰 New research commissioned by us shows that almost a third of Brits are in energy debt or are worried about falling behind on their energy bills.

💷 For those who are in debt, the picture is troubling: skipping meals; food bank visits; owing money to someone who makes them scared.

🚨Yet, shockingly, only 1 in 12 of those in energy arrears had been referred to debt advice by their supplier.

Meanwhile, as households struggle through another energy crisis, the energy industry is raking it in. In the first three months of this year, the UK energy industry made £3bn in profits.

We’re calling on Ofgem to;

✅ Introduce mandatory debt collection standards.
✅ Publish a supplier performance dashboard.
✅ Fund the Debt Relief Scheme through windfall profits, not bills.

The energy industry caused this debt mountain. They must help clear it.

📉After 107 days of conflict, gas still costs more than double its price five years ago.

🗣️The damage to household budgets is already done, and millions are still paying for it. Debt doesn't disappear when wholesale prices dip.

⚡Gas sets the market price for electricity too. This isn't just a gas bill problem. It affects every household in the country.

🚨Household energy debt has more than doubled since 2021, up 118%, according to the National Audit Office.

➡️Millions are struggling with bills, yet most people don't know support like repayment plans and social tariffs exist.

🗣️It's on suppliers and regulators to make sure that support actually reaches people.

🗣️MPs debated energy costs in Westminster yesterday.

📈Energy giants stand to make billions in extra profits from Trump's war on Iran, while ordinary households face higher bills as a result.

🚨No one should be living in a cold, damp home, but that's the reality for millions of families who can't afford the basics.

➡️MPs called on the government to end unaffordable energy costs.

BP paid £422 million in windfall tax last year, and in the first three months of 2026 alone, its profits more than doubled to £2.4 billion.

These are BP's own figures, and they prove two things:

✅ Energy firms can afford the windfall tax, and
✅ It's raising real money that should be going to help families struggling with their bills.

Thankfully the Chancellor is now closing a loophole that let companies like BP cut their UK tax bill using overseas corporate structures.

🗣️The public agrees: 64% of Brits support taxing oil and gas companies' excess profits, according to YouGov polling out today. Just 16% oppose it.

🗣️100 days since the Iran conflict began.

📈Household bills up ➡️ £221 on the average bill.
📈Energy firm profits up ➡️ £26.2bn in global profits.

Behind every percentage point on the Ofgem price cap is a household whose direct debit is about to go up, and an energy firm whose profits already have.
