Rockinghorse Children's Charity We're a Brighton-based charity that has been supporting sick and disadvantaged babies, children and teenagers in Sussex since 1967.

Registered charity number 1018759. We are a Brighton-based charity that has been supporting children in Sussex for over 50 years. Rockinghorse was founded in 1967 by Dr Trevor Mann, who recognised there was a real need for additional resources to improve healthcare services for sick children and babies. Our charity is best-known as the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital (the Alex) in Brighton and we are a vital supporter of the neighbouring Trevor Mann Baby Unit (TMBU). We strive to make children’s services and paediatric units stimulating, cutting-edge and accessible for the many children, babies and young people who need them. We do not receive any government funding and therefore rely on the generous support of individuals, community groups, schools, companies and trusts. Rockinghorse supports children and families across Sussex, from hospital wards and specialist units to community healthcare settings and wellbeing services. 🏥👶👧🧒

If your child has visited hospital in Sussex, they may have benefitted from something Rockinghorse has helped fund, whether that’s a toy 🧸, a book 📚, specialist equipment 🩺, a sensory space 🌈, a wellbeing activity 🎨 or support for NHS staff 💛

As we prepare to celebrate 60 years of Rockinghorse 🎉, we’d love to hear from families whose lives have been touched by our work.

✈️ A massive thank you to Ash, who works at Higgidy for doing a tandem skydive in aid of Rockinghorse with GoSkydive 🪂

Jumping from 15,000ft at 125mph, with 60 seconds of freefall, Ash raised an incredible amount of £1,100 👏🏻

Higgidy have kindly supported Rockinghorse for the last two years, and we are incredibly grateful for their continued support as their charity partner.

Ash said: "It's been a genuinely special few weeks, and I'm really glad I did it. It's shown me that an adventure I've always wanted to do can also help someone else along the way. The support from everyone at Higgidy has also been amazing." 💬

We’re excited to launch Pawtraits for Rockinghorse, a Sussex primary schools drawing challenge in partnership with vet, author and animal welfare campaigner Marc the Vet 🐾🎨

The competition invites children aged 4 to 11 to create their own imaginative animal Pawtrait, choosing from three categories:

🐾 Their own pet
✨ A fictional animal
🦸 A super animal with an amazing power

The aim is to raise funds for our Pets as Therapy sessions at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton, where specially trained therapy animals visit the bedsides of seriously ill children, offering comfort and calm during hospital stays.

One winner and runner-up will be selected from each category, and the overall winner will see their Pawtrait turned into a soft toy 🧸

Entries close 31 October 2026.

We’d love schools, families and local businesses to help us spread the word and encourage children across Sussex to get creative for a brilliant cause.

Working alongside incredible supporters and ambassadors like Dr Marc Abraham OBE and Pets As Therapy, we’re helping explore ways therapy dogs can support children’s emotional wellbeing during hospital stays ✨

A friendly wagging tail, a calm moment and a comforting cuddle can mean so much to a frightened child.

Because sometimes healing starts with a little comfort 💫

🏊‍♀️ A HUGE well done to all the incredible swimmers who participated in this year's Rockinghorse Relay last night at Sea Lanes Brighton 🌅

It was great to see so many of you get involved in supporting Rockinghorse.

Thank you to our sponsor, Ace Scaffolding Contractors and to Sea Lanes and South Downs Leisure for the fantastic venue. Good luck to every swimmer taking to the water at Sea Lanes Brighton for this year’s challenge. Whether you are swimming for the whole hour or splitting the hour with your team, we'll be cheering you on every stroke of the way! 🌊

It doesn’t matter what speed you do or what distance you cover; every pound raised will help Rockinghorse support babies, children, young people and their families across Sussex.
