Well Bridgwater – what an amazing bunch of people you are.
Bridgwater Friends of Cancer Research UK had a mad idea to Turn Bridgwater Pink during the month of October. Working together with the Town Team – and only 9 weeks’ notice to get it sorted, they put out feelers and talked to a lot of people about the idea. It started off slowly, but soon gathered momentum. Various people were approached and it started to take shape.
Local businesses turned their windows pink and thought about ideas to raise funds. Alongside this, Carnival clubs, churches, medical centres, pubs, Slimming World groups, dance schools, exercise groups and Freemasons also got involved. Ideas ranged from hair cuts, raffles, pink days, cake sales, and a danceathon. Many businesses also had collecting pots.
The Town Hall went pink and the High Street in the evening was swathed in pink lights.
Angel Place were magnificent in their help throughout October, as the centre was filled with a beautiful Ferrari (loaned to us) which was filled with balloons for “guess the number of balloons in the Ferrari”. There were bespoke mugs made by Crafty Collective and bespoke candles made by West Country Candle Co. The Crafty Collective also had an art display at the top of Angel Place.
There were two displays in the Angel Place – Fox King dancers and YMTC. They were both excellent in their performances.
The window displays were judged by Kath Pearce (mayor) and Robson Funeral Directors was judged as the winner and received a trophy for this.
So now for the good news – drum roll please. Our total was £17,334, which is absolutely fantastic. This money is going to Cancer Research UK, but we are dividing it and sending a quarter each to research into Breast Cancer, Lung Cancer, Urological Cancer (Prostate and Testicular) and General. This was decided by the Turn Bridgwater Pink Team, which consisted of Vicki Barritt (Relationship Manager, Cancer Research UK), Keith & Carol Fishlock (Bridgwater Friends of Cancer Research UK), Rose Stacey (Timeless Images), Sarah Young and Sue Rawle (Crafty Collective), Paul Moate (Chair Bridgwater Town Team) and Sally Palmer (West Country Candle co).
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyonewho has supported us 😢
