Back in summer 2024, we teamed up with the Friends of Brecon Groves and Prom to bring something truly special to life—beautiful wooden carvings celebrating the incredible wildlife that calls this area home 🦉🦇

As you wander through the woodland, keep your eyes peeled… from owls and bats to other hidden treasures, there’s so much to discover along the way 👀🌳

Why not take a stroll this Wales Nature Week and see what you can spot? Perfect for a gentle wander if you’re local—or just visiting the area 💚

🌿✨ Discover nature at Llandetty Church ✨🌿

Nestled on the banks of the beautiful River Usk, and just a short walk from the Brecon & Monmouthshire Canal, Llandetty Church is becoming a haven for both people and wildlife.

Thanks to support from Local Places for Nature funding, the wonderful Friends of St Tetty’s group have been busy transforming the churchyard into a welcoming space for nature to thrive 🌱

🌳 Native trees have been planted
🌼 A vibrant wildflower meadow is starting to bloom
🐝 Wildlife is being encouraged in all its forms

And here’s where you come in… 👀
At the church entrance, you’ll find a blackboard where visitors can share what they’ve spotted — from birds and butterflies to bees and beyond! It’s a simple way to help build a picture of the wildlife calling this special place home.

🌿 Spot it. Stop it. Pull it! 🌿

Himalayan Balsam might look pretty, but it’s one of the UK’s most well-known invasive plants—and it spreads fast! Left alone, just one plant can produce thousands of seeds, crowding out our precious native wildlife.

The good news? 💪 You can help fight back!

Here’s how:
✅ Grab the plant low down at the base of the stem
✅ Gently pull it up (roots and all!)
✅ Snap or stamp on the stem to stop it regrowing
✅ Leave it to dry out and die

🌱 It’s simple, satisfying, and makes a real difference for local nature!

📍 In Island Fields? Even better!
The Town Council and local volunteers have set up special bins—just pop your pulled plants in and they’ll take care of the rest.

🌱 Back in January 2024, the Local Nature Partnership teamed up with brilliant volunteers and the Bannau Brycheiniog Youth Wardens to plant a new hedge near Brecon’s Watton Allotments.

Fast forward to now—we popped back a few days ago, and it’s amazing to see how much it’s grown already!

Planted with a mix of native species like field maple, hazel, hawthorn and alder, this hedge is really starting to flourish. In just a couple more years, it’ll be laid—making it even stronger and creating a thriving wildlife corridor for birds, insects and more.

💚 A simple project making a real difference for nature—watch this space!

Mae defnyddio hadau tarddiad lleol yn rhan allweddol o helpu natur i ffynnu wrth i’r argyfwng hinsawdd a natur barhau 💚

Ddydd Llun 9 Mawrth, aethom â rhai o’n partneriaid o’r Bartneriaeth Natur Leol i ymweld â Celtic Wildflowers i weld eu gwaith gwych yn agos – o dyfu hadau lleol, i gyfrannu at adfer natur, ac i ddatblygu dulliau arloesol o dyfu mwsogl Sphagnum ar gyfer adfer mawndiroedd a storio carbon 🌿

Diwrnod gwych o ddysgu, rhannu syniadau a chyfnewid gwybodaeth – gyda digon o ysbrydoliaeth i bawb! ✨

🌱 Growing local, growing resilient 🌱

Using locally sourced seed is a big part of helping nature thrive in the face of the climate and nature emergency 💚

On Monday 9 March, we took some of our Local Nature Partnership friends to Celtic Wildflowers to see their brilliant work up close – from growing local provenance seed, to supporting nature recovery, and even developing innovative ways to grow Sphagnum moss for peatland restoration and carbon storage 🌿

A great day of learning, sharing ideas and swapping knowledge – with plenty of inspiration all round! ✨
