Closing my rescue doors for couple of weeks.
My mental health is at rock bottom, all birds in my care will still have the best care.

This poor pigeon was sitting in the rain in someone’s garden in Hatfield peverel I netted him so easily, was text book netting, he was too weak to go anywhere. I picked him up n immediately the stink of canker, omg, and rain water ran out of his mouth. I knew it was canker just by the smell, n yes, got it all over my jumper n body warmer, he’s now home with me, I got some canker out of his mouth but it’s rock hard in his crop, he’s bn syringe fed, given canker meds, antibiotics (can’t do any harm) n now need to see if he suvives the night. I’m about to order plastic aprons as today alone u r bn covered in bird poo, and canker liquid. Want to know how bad the smell is. Imagine, leaving Stilton in ur car for the whole of the summer fingers crossed for this one. Chance of suvival is slim but he has a better chance with me, thsn in the garden in the rain

Another one in today, broken leg, infected deep wound on the thigh and side, which is going to need to be drained when needed, and a puncture wound on the other side towards the neck. Very hungry, so he’s bn fed, painkillers, antibiotics, leg put in place, and iodine put in wounds n infection drained. What a start to a life. Great tit died before it hit to me, and a phone call @ a sparrow hawk which I passed onto Colchester owl rescue

Today’s rescue,yes I looked weird in town trying to catch, but who cares!!!! lol
Originally though just broken leg, but saw blood on one of the wings, n it has a deep swollen wound in the thigh.
So, all wrapped, pain relief given, I will start antibiotics when I’m back home, n now in a heat pad safe.

Bn a bit quiet but rest assured I’m not sitting about lol Ive had a pigeon in from town with bad feet, don’t no if I put her in here, well, all string is off her feet now, n she’s now outside. One foot is stil v sore, so she’s having antiseptic rubs every other day n pain relief daily. Dickens the crow was bought in with suspected broken leg,2 years ago, but actually it was calcium deficiency,his wings underneath were white. Just as I get him to peak condition, he had a relapse and his feathers all break. He spent the summer outside enjoying fresh air n sunshine, but I bought him inside for the winter. He comes out weekly, can’t fly, but he enjoys games, Bisto and Pringle lids, n empty plastic bottles and hiding his food in his blanket. He eats, cat/ dog food, raw meat, fruit, veg, bread( I hide his calcium liquid in the bread) nuts, seeds, boiled eggs, he is actually more vocal than our parrot. Some may say it’s no life in captivity, but he has quality of life, esp in the summer when he’s outside, hopping from perch to perch n bathing n soaking everything/one

I was told about this poor town pigeon in town that was injured, tried catching but she could fly so made my job harder, this am I found her n I was armed with seed, so feed her, attempted to catch but the flew off, patiently waited whilst she came back n was eating n I slowly raised my net n sucsess!! I caught her. I thought broken leg, but her feet are tangled up n were attached to each other,I’ve spent time getting some off but it’s so deep,I’ve put ointment on them, I’m giving her a rest and I will resume later.

V thin n has canker deep in the crop.
Snuggled on a hot water bottle( my poorly parrot has my heat pad, and other one refused to work, don’t ask lol) has had critical care and canker meds, sadly because he’s so thin this goes against him. But will c how he is in the morning.
I’m trying to catch an injured pigeon in town too, but because it can fly, it makes the task v difficult.

Wood pigeon with bad canker, his head had almost disappeared into his neck bless him, feeling v sorry for himself n litterally starving to death,
Came in yesterday late afternoon n to b honest didn’t think he would suvive the night.
Managed to get some canker out, n I’m tube feeding him n canker treatment has bn given.

Walking through town tonight, n found a poorly pigeon, picked him up n popped him in my gillet. Took him in a shop as needed to get something lol
