South Asian culture has made a significant and lasting impact on Britain through our food, language, music, art, and the very fabric of our towns and cities.

Here in Yorkshire, we’re proud to see that richness reflected in the women and communities we work with every day. This South Asian Heritage Month
we’re celebrating Unity in Diversity. A theme that perfectly reflects what we strive to create at Yorkshire Women’s Forum. Spaces where women from different cultures, faiths and backgrounds come together, celebrate their heritage, share their stories and build meaningful connections.

Our recent fashion show was a beautiful example of this with heritage, culture and community woven into every stitch. Fabrics from different cultures & countries used to create a shared purpose and show the incredible power of women lifting each other up. Because when women come together, diversity becomes our greatest strength. ❤️

What a night!

Our Sustainable Fashion Show was about so much more than clothes. It was about opening conversations around fast fashion, textile waste, landfill, and showing how garments, especially denim can be repaired, repurposed and given a whole new life instead of being thrown away.

Most importantly, the evening raised awareness and funds to tackle period poverty, reminding us that sustainability is about caring for both our planet and our communities.

A huge thank you to everyone who modelled, volunteered, donated, sponsored and supported us. You made the evening truly special.

Period poverty is still a reality for too many women and girls in our communities.

Recent UK research by ActionAid UK found that 1 in 10 women and people who menstruate struggled to afford period products. Of those, 64% had to prioritise buying food instead, while 40% prioritised paying for gas and electricity.

That's why we are launching the Period Poverty Project. Together, we'll be working to:
- Break the stigma around menstruation
- Raise awareness & provide education which is culturally appropriate
- Improve access to period products which are sustainable and safe
- Support women and girls with dignity
- Create lasting change across Bradford and beyond.

Join us for an event in partnership with Bradford City FC Community Foundation. An evening of
fashion, community and purpose, helping us create a future where no woman or girl has to choose between managing her period and meeting life's basic essentials.
